Ok boat guys, I have an 1988 evinrude 20 horse. It is a 2 stroke (have to mix the gas and oil). When I rev up the engine, it starts to rev up but then bogs down. Also when I put the boat in gear and give it gas it bogs down. The prop does move, but not enough to push the boat.
I have changed the spark plugs and have gotten new gas. The boat has not been run in about 3-4 years.
any suggestions would be great

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Clean and rebuild the carb(s). Sounds like they ahve gummed up from sitting around.

Maybe try a bottle of Seafoam thru it first.

If you had it stored where mice could have had access, remove the motor cover and inspect for any debris and also check the air intake (airbox). Underneath the flywheel, I think there may also be some mechanical linkage for timing advance, make sure it is free of any obstruction and give it a shot of WD-40.
You could also have a problem with the fuel line. You may want to replace the sqeeze bulb on the fuel line, or borrow a gas line from a neighbor or friend for testing purposes.

I had this before with my 15 hp Johnson, and it ended up being the check valve in the gas hose. The check valve came apart and lodged in the line, only allowing enough gas through to run at an idle.

Hey Dave, when you get it fixed, let us know what you did.;)
