I have a quick question, maybe somebody has experienced the same thing. I have a 90hp evinrude 1988. The motor runs strong no problems. Last year i replaced the VRO pump, and this year i replaceed the Impellar because the alrm was going crazy because it wasnt spitting water.
here is my problem My alarm, buzzer, whatever you call it at my throttle is making a muffled chirp almost a ticking chirp if that makes sense?, then when I tap my tilt and trim it goes away for a bit?????? The alarm works fine because when I start my boat its definetly not mufffled...... any Ideas???? Is this a prelude to something, or what??

My small boat would do that every so often. I think it was a bad in-line fuse holder at the battery that went to all my stuff at the dash. I replaced it with a spade type fuse holder and that stopped the chirpin.

Thanks:) for the info I will go through my system and check things. I was assumig that it had to do with a ground wire somewhere?

Positive lead that hooks up at the batt (from the main panel behind the dash) had an inline on it from the factory. It should have had a breaker. Anyway, the in-line fuse holder was shorting out. It was just old and used, expecially in the moisture of the boats bildge. At certain times, I think it wasn't contacting good and the buzzer was a warning signal that it wasn't getting a full 12 volts. If i wiggled the holder, it would make better contact and beepin' went away. Once I cut that inline out and replaced with a new one, all was good. Not saying this is your problem, but a place to check.

Bad or loose connection somewhere.

should you be concerned, only if you don't want to blow your motor. also if you don't see any water pumping out while running motor SHUT HER DOWN. well, that is if you would like to keep it. brand new pumps/impellars can be installed wrong or break they're MAN MADE.

Thanks Guys
I checked out what Salmonbum mentioned about the inline fuse. What I found was exactly that. The fuse at the connection was so corroded it was only be held together by 2 wire strands. I have replaced it, now I just have to put it in the water to see if that was it for sure. Ill will be holding my breathe:dizzy: thanks

Well I put my boat in today to check things out, unfourtantly that was only part of my problem. The chirping noise wet away but Im still getting a small ticking noise from the alarm. You can hardly here it unless you actually lean down to listen for it. Whats funny is I ran my boat for about 20 down the river never heard a thing cause I stopped and checked my skam holes cause I noticed there is s few in the river. When we turned around and started heading back I had to slow down for some TUBBERS:yikes: and i notice the sound again:rant:. I guess I will cut and reconnect all the connections that have end to end connectors. I have no clue.........

well guys im still searching for my problem. I put my boat in yesterday after i cleaned every single connection. I also cut and re crimped end to end connectors where needed. Now the noise is a little louder but not a full blown alarm. I think now by cleaning all my connections i just feed it more power? I was told there were four sensor on my motor? oil pressure, oil level, water temp and what would be the fourth one? Has anybody just had the alarm go bad? Now i dont even have to put the boat in the water, all I have to do is turn the key and the noise is there?? :help:

Not sure if any of my experiences are relative to your problem, but your symptoms are similar to what I have experienced in my Lund Alaskan SC (18ft).
...First year I had it the alarm started squealing when it was running, but the water was coming out of the motor in a steady strong stream, so the pump was working fine. Took it into the dealer and he detected a short in the Tachometer. We disconnected that, and the alarm stopped instantly.
Lund gave me a new Tachometer, and it was fine until the next year when the same thing happened again. They then gave me a third tachometer that was a heavier duty version. I even called Lund and got their service guy involved. He told me that the earlier versions of the tachometer were failing in similar fashion in a lot of cases.
...I've had the last one in now for over two years and no problem.
The other problem I have regularly is my own creation.
I use this boat a lot in the fall for water fowling up here on Lake Skegemog. As such we get into some shallower, silty backwater, and I have occasionally plugged the outgoing water ports.
When I don't see a strong steady stream of water coming out, I immediately slow the speed down, and go back to my dock and shore station. Then I use my air compressor and a blow gun to blow out those ports, then test it.
...I also replace that water pump regularly because it is sucking in that silty water back where we hunt.
Not sure any of this helps, but those were my experiences that are similar to what I think you're experiencing now.

thanks Brian for the input I will definetly unhook my Tach. It could be a possibility like yours, because this is a 1988 sylvan bass boat. I will find this by process of elimination I hope. I surely dont want to pay 75.00hr shop labor. thanks again

You might also unhook your Speedometer, if it isn't the tach. In mycase, the wire went from one to the other.I don't know a stitch about electricity, but I watched the dealer trouble shoot it, and that's what he did.
...Just an FYI, this boat is powered by a 50 HP Four stroke "Eninucki". Made by Suzucki, labeled by Evinrude. It's a helluva an engine. Very quiet, very thrifty on fuel.

Well I put the boat back in today, now I think I have it narrowed down.
When I put the boat in and started it up I didnt here nothing right away, but as the motor got warm it started, THE NOISE, so I started pulling tan wires that are connected to the sensors. I pulled the one to the oil, than one on the head on the right side, were good. Then when i pulled the wire on the head on the left side the noise quit. So that tells me the sensor is bad on that side Right??? I did the touch test and i noticed i could leave my hand on the head on the right side but not the left. So maybe the sensor is working and I have a heating problem???? If i had a heating problem why would my alarm be minimal, I heard that thing go off before when my vro pump went out that thing is very loud!!
If I change my thermostat should my heating problem go away?? Is there one for each head?? I bought this boat 3yrs ago and use it alot. I change my vro pump last year and I did my Water pump this year, so I gues that leaves my thermostat or stats........
How hard is it to change them I see it looks like 2 there with 3 bolts??:help:

So glad you mentioned that.
...This Spring, when I had my dealer replace the water pump, I told him that the motor was putting itself into "safe mode" at half throttle, He said that was a thermostat problem, not the water pump.
...So we did both.
Now, everything is fine.
