I have an 1982 Champion bass boat with a 150hp mercury. There is a long, shallow (2-3') channel that I frequently need to pass though on my home lake. It's a flooding, so there are logs at the bottom. The trouble is I need to raise the motor up with the power tilt to get through the channel, but this makes it difficult to steer the boat and it's very slow going. I see that you can buy power jacking plates (the CMC PL-65 jacking plate) that raise the motor straight up and down, instead of tilting it at an angle. Has anyone had experience with power jack plates, and do they help with shallow water low speed situations like this?

If you go this route you will want to take a look at possibly a new lower unit with Low Water pickups (or a gauge to keep an eye on your water pressure) to make sure you get enough water for cooling when you lift the motor.

Save goes for the prop, you want want to check if you prop is suitable as well. Some thing that is capable of piercing the surface.......

I have that model on my 2000 triton tr-20 with a 200 opti.

I love it mine has the power dial to set the height. I bought mine from Bass Pro and mounted it myself. I haven't had any problems and its been on the boat 5 years.
