I have a 1976 Evinrude 25 horse outboard, model 25653E
I want to change the spark plugs but I'm finding conflicting information about which plug is the correct one to use.
My Evinrude service manual says that the plug should be a Champion J4J.
Most of the marine spark plug web sites that I've visited recommend a Champion J8C.
As I understand it, the J8 plug is two heat ranges hotter than the J4 plug. I don't want to hurt my engine by using too hot a plug.
The plugs that are in the engine now are old rusty Delco plugs.
Any thoughts about where I can find the current best information about which spark plug to use in my outboard?
Thanks
Lindsey
