Not counting spawning time, how long usually is a 5 lb largemouth
or what is the shortest one you have seen in michigan.
This question is mainly for the tournament anglers whom probably get
to see their share of them and have good scales to back them up.

Personally my best bass was a 21.5 inch smallmouth and the wife's was
a 23 inch largemouth last year of which neither were weighed.
We were more concerned about getting them back in the water to
fight another day.

Thanks
Mattt

Not sure, but I caught a 23.5 inch Smallmouth once, and it weighed 6.5 pounds. I fought it for close to 20 minutes on 4 lb line before I landed it. I should have submitted it for a Master Angler award, but I checked the State record, and it was far short, so I ate it with my cat. I had no idea about Master Angler awards back then. It tasted good.

My son caught a 22" Smally that was weighed on a certified scale at 5.6 lbs. This was in the fall so it was post spawn.

The 23" largie should be over 5lbs. The smallie should be right around 5.

I got a Grand river post spawn LM and it was barely 20 inches and weighed 3.8 pounds. Way skinnier than most LM bass 20 inches long I got in a lake. Which is not a ton by any means. It varies with the time of year and health of the fish.
There are general weights for lengths but the best thing is to get the true data. I have 2 scales and a tape measure with me usually. I guess both ways, light and heavy but usually just a wee bit heavy.
My mounter eye I thought was 10 at least, maybe 11 and ended up 12.36!

Yea.....that is a tough question. Alot depends on what body of water they were caught in. Rivers tend to have skinnier fish than lakes. And lakes that have good high protein food sources like the lakes connected to the big lakes, the fish tend to be heavier than on most inland lakes. I caught a 21" smalljaw out of Grand Traverse bay that weighed 5 lbs 15 ozs several hours after I caught it. Got a master angler for that one.

Caught a 5 pound 24 inch largemouth a few years back at the Thornapple Lake. Naturally it is mounted.

My infamous Kent Lake largie i caught while ice fishing was 22 and about 6.5 pounds. This bass was meaty though, all the bass are in that lake. Biggest smallie was about 20 and probably just under 6, caught in sylvania, which has an incredible number of huge smallies.

Thanks for the responses folks.
Sound like there's quite a few variables but the 20 inch mark
seems to be where minumum for a 5 pounder can be had and probably
a bit longer.

Both of our fish were caught on Orchard last October during the fall bite
and both on crankbaits.

I caught a 22.5" bass last year from a local pond, and it was just over 6.5 lbs. It was as fat as a spawner bass, except it was in July. Guess it was gorging itself on stunted gills.

It was released to be caught again one day.
