Octane #'s for Outboards

Curious as to whats the correct octane gas to run in an outboard motor. I looked in my Johnson owners manual and it did not give an actual number of octane. It is an 2000 Johnson 8hp 2cycle motor. Thanks.

I'm sure 87 should be just fine for an engine that size

What does it say in the owner's manual then?? Wish I had my owner's manual for a '99 Johnson 9.9 hp 2 cycle.
