Restoring former wetlands

EASTERN UPPER PENINSULA - Approximately 200 new ponds have been created throughout the Eastern Upper Peninsula under the Wetlands Reserve Program since the passage of the 1996 Farm Bill.

“The landscape is changing dramatically,” said Administrator Dusty King of the Chippewa/ East Mackinac Conservation District fresh off a recent fly-over of the region to view the newly-established ponds constructed on roughly 70 different easements throughout Chippewa and eastern Mackinac counties.
