I am NOT looking for debate and I am not a huge baiter but I have often thought about this. Can you plant rye, wheat, rape etc on public land?

I am not priveldged enough to own my own land yet, so I hunt public areas. Is it illegal to throw down rye or something in a 20X20 square near a spot I am planning on hunting?

I think it is illegal but not sure.......

Reason I ask is I am introducing my boy 16 to bow hunting this year and I want to kind spice up an area so he has a better opportunity to see some deer.

With very few exceptions it is against the regulations to plant on public land.

Definately a "no-no", but at the same time you'd find that a 20x20 area would amount to just about nothing during the deer season unless it's heavily supported by other food sources. Also, once you spook deer off it one time it's a dead plot for daytime use and will in no way provide the attraction of a pile of corn or apples....so you are better off without the work anyways and for the "bang for your buck", you can't beat a good old-fashioned bait pile for what you want!
