Floated a stretch of the Black on my brother's 16th B-day. We fished from 7:30 am to 1 pm. Couple of small brookies hit early on. Then a double of small smallmouth and a sucker. We planned on brookies for dinner, but ended up losing a few spinner to pike before we put on wire leaders. So we ended up with two 24" on the stringer and a few smaller ones we had to let go. Anyone else finding pike in the trout water right now? I was very suprised, but we felt we adapted well and still came out victorious. Take care.

Chip

PS- Hit a different little creek on Wed morning and landed a few small browns on spinners. Good luck to everyone getting out.

I am pretty sure I know which one you mean, but which Black? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_River_%28Michigan%29

I am heading up soon and was curious what the water was like with all the heat...

Chip, If it's the Black I'm thinking about, there have always been pike in there and there used to be no limits or size restrictions because they want them controlled.
Upriver from where you probably were, I've never seen a pike in over 50 years of fishing it. I'd be interested in hearing where you put in as maybe the heat and warmer water are moving upriver and the pike along with it. I'm coming up next month and need some input.
ffChristian, If the river is heating up, you have to go upstream from the Vanderbilt road to get into the fish. It was pretty much so in the past as even without the extreme heat the water got pretty warm. I fish wherever there's a bluff as there are usually springs there and they look for the cooler water.
Would be interested in input on how the river is doing as I haven't been up to my place in a few years.
