Hello all,
I'm going up mid week7-16 to 7-20 to stay at the Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor. My In-laws are coming up from Chicago, which is why I'm not camping on the Platte as usual,(all we ever catch are pre-migrants and little browns, but it's my wifes favorite place) but want to take ol' dad somewhere else, has the Betsie gotten to hot?(just got back from MIO, AuSable was 70 degrees) The river running through Glen arbor has a few decent smallies, but I don't know, I guess I want to give him a shot at something better. They have never been up there, and with the wineries, and sight seeing, I know my time on the water will be brief(sucks). He just bought new waders and bunch of other gear, just for the trip, we'll have both fly and spinning gear so our options are open.
I've never fished the Boardman but heard good things, Looking at the map, it's about the best option if the Ladies are shopping in TC, but I'm not limited to trout, If the Bays have any thing wadebly close to shore (carp or samllies) I'm down with that. It just looks like where we are staying is "so far" from all the spots I know. I'd rather have the bad weather turn off fish, or muck up the water, rather than me take him somewhere that we don't have a shot at something decent, that way only we can blame ourselves or the fish gods for not cathing anything. I can't believe I'm actually kind of nervous about this, this is one time I hope I don't get skunked. Any suggestions would be sweet, if anything please pm me. Thank you all for reading this far.

I would pass on the Betsie for anything but the odd early Run Salmon.
River gets just to warm.

The Boardman south of TC will be the easiest to read and fish. The upper Platte will have some fishing also. Both of these rivers are easy to fish, and read water. Bug hatches are pretty typical of Northern MI. You can start the hopper and ant fishing now.

You can explore some of the smaller creeks are rivers in Leelanau County, but I cant mention any names on here. Just get out a map book. These creeks might not be fly fishable, more bait or small spinners.

Good Luck have fun. Its a great place to be this time of the year.

I spent a few hours on the Boardman Friday afternoon while my wife was shopping in TC. I landed 4 brookies and lost a few other fish. (Uncle Josh's minnows)

Thanks alot for the vote of confidence fellas. I'll be tying up a couple of bugs tonight and will probably hit the Boardman just cause I never have. But boy, those early salmon are going to make me bring a few big rods just incase the urge hits to ply some dark water on the Betsie. Thanks again.
