Well, went fishing for stream trout saturday, something I don't really do. But it's summer and my kind of fishing doesn't start till August, so I decided to do something different. I fished way up a steelhead river in NE Michigan. It's not very deep here, or very wide. I took no large or even medium fish, but the ones I did catch were nothing but beautiful. I believe that the gorgeous colors of a stream trout, combined with the small, brushy flows of a trout stream are what lures people to them. Not to mention the solitude, we never encountered a single other person. We fished simply, 4lb and trout worms on small baitholders. We fished weightless or with a bb shot, depending on the water. The best trout holding areas were shaded areas under overhanging bushes. Deeper holes also produced, of course, but the overhang produced the most trout. I love the alertness and survival of stream living fish. Even though these fish were very active, 2-3 out of a spot would soon end the catching. It went from sun to clouds on and off throughout the day, with the cloudy portions producing best. I'm gonna post quite a string of pics here, even though it was just a day trip, it was fun and relaxing:
