Took out PA Papas toy II and 3 of his friends. Set out from Marine city and trolled down stream. Marked alot caught little. Tried a couple of different baits I don't usually use. Nothing was caught on crawlers. GULP with a harness on one and a walleye spoon for the other. Never tried walleye spoons in the river trolling. Decided to try because they didn't seem to want crawlers. Also had a surprise catch. Which was caught by Jim (PA Papas toy). His wife got the trip for him for his 50th birthday. And he happen to catch this:

Weighed in at 7 1/4 lbs. never thought kings would still be in the river at the end of June. It was caught down where the NC and SC split. It was caught on one of the walleye spoons.

Had spots on the back and it tail just like a king, plus a straight tail. But then again, I'm not a salmonoid type of guy.

Looks like steel to me. The tail, the mouth. It's gotta be steel.

The king we have caught had a darker orange color compared to the steel which were a mild orange. Lake trout were even lighter still. But that can all be different per fish. The real tell is the mouth color like FishTales said. black mouth = King, white = steel.

99.9% certain that is a steelie... check out the eye and blue-ish face. Tail is pretty square too.

Catch a few of them in the NC, closer to grassy thru July.

Nice fish!

I'll fill in the other .1%. :) That is 100% a steelhead. Try grilling it on a cedar plank. Very tasty! Cool bonus fish Mike!

It had olive color on the very top of its back with black dots within that color all the way to the tail and on the tail. Flesh was a very light orange. Did not look in the mouth for its color. No fork in the tail

Looked like the one thats in the DNR rules phamphet. Well whatever it is, it was a very surprise catch.

Kings have black gums. As for the rest of the salmon groups, I'm clueless. White mouth, white gums, Steelhead,.... White mouth black gums, Coho That one looks to be a Steelhead.

Yes, if you want to keep it or if you are targeting that specie.

Doesn't that depend on the age of the child? I know a license is not needed if under a certain age for most species, but does it matter in regards to salmon/trout if under the licensed age?

I was assuming someone over the age of 17.
