I know this is talked about alot but something i would like to make sure after spending so much on seed. Is ok to spray switchgrass after it was come up with atraznie? i just planted in may and there are alot of weeds in it. Or should i spray something else like 2-4-d but i know that has to be after the 5 leaf stage. Any help would be nice.

Atrazine works best on weeds before they emerge. If you have broadleaves then 2,4-d may be a better option.

Yes it is OK to spray atrazine on switchgrass before or after it comes up and anytime in between. I would also put crop oil in with the atrazine and that will help on emerged weeds. It will hold some on the plant surface and you will see better control. Call John Osenbaugh at
Osenbaugh seed company in Iowa. He will tell you the same. 2 lbs an acre is all that you are supposed to put on in a year so be real carefull and don't make a mistake and put on more cause it will work even better. I found some real good pictures of switchgrass seedlings,- it only took 2 years of looking to find some. Now my switchgrass is established I don't need them but I remember looking till I was fit to be tied. I though I found them and now I can say I don't think it was. There is a real red color to the stem where it comes out of the ground on Cave-in-Rock any way since that is what I have. I planted more this year and we now have 35 to 40 acres. I am hoping to harvest some seed myself this year. If any one has experience with switchgrass of even clover drop me a line.
Thanks,
Cary
