View Full Version : Craig Monroe is the new Brandon Inge

His batting average is continually marching towards the Mendoza line, and Monroe doesn't have gold glove caliber fielding skills. I think Thames should start getting more time in the outfield if this keeps up. Maybe pull up Clevlan for a few games otherwise.

(On a side note, I was quite critical of Inge earlier in the year when he couldn't hit water from a boat, but he's really impressed me of late. Whatever adjustments he made to his hitting approach, they've worked great.)

His 5 strike out performance against the Brewers cost us a game, that is for sure. Man on third less than two outs in the ninth if I recall. That said, it is nice having Thames available late in games to pinch hit. I think he is a better contact hitter than Monroe so maybe that is the thinking behind that. Both are streaky, that is for sure. I am with you on Inge, he frustrates me quite a bit but he has been performing very well lately.

He still hasn't cost us as many games as Todd Jones

C-Mo is a second half player, his numbers are waay better in the second half of the season, so just give him a little time. I agree he has had a couple terrible games this year and he seems to be down a bit, but hopefully he comes around and has a strong second half. I would like to see Thames get a few more at bats too. C-Mo's power numbers are still pretty good, especially for the bottom 1/3 of a lineup, and that is especially true after seeing some of the nat'l league teams 7-8 guys in the lineup, man they are bad.

i don't get clevlan, he can hit at the top level as last year showed, but sucks in the minors. i think he is batting around 200 again this year at AA.

Yeap, second half player who usually comes around.

He may be a 'second-half' player ,but still if you're in the majors you are expected to-and should be playing good all year round. Sure there are 'bad streaks' now and then but if you need to show you can produce the entire season. I too wouldnt mind seeing some of the other players out there, it seems as if Thames has an equal bat to 'c-mo' and that mabey the Tig's should flirt with the idea of trading him for a decent player to put in the bullpen.

Yeah the Tigers better do something about this quickly. Having 8th and 9th hitters that combine for 50 home runs and over 160 RBI's is just unacceptable.

Now that seems to be a very good idea. There doesn't seem to be very many holes in their batting order, and Monroe is likely gone next year or two with the emergence of Maybin. Any pitcher that can avoid giving up 3 runs per inning will be an improvement

Hey Slappy, did my post even hint at needing to do something about this? Perhaps you should relax a little, maybe spend some more time with your Leyland blow up doll.

I never said you thought they should do something about it. I was merely forming my own opinion after reading your thorough analysis.
