I know there are several guys on here who fish the lake quite a bit and thought it might be fun to possibly put together a little fun tourney over the holiday week/weekend. No cost or prizes, just bragging rights. I can do just about any day mon-friday. If anyone interested we can try and iron out a meeting time/date?

I won't be to the lake til sunday evening, so the earliest I could do it would be monday. Either way, I'll still be on the lake, save some fish for us foote. I could do it tuesday. foote, just call in sick, we've got three of us in. :D

I'll be in. Just let me know the day and I'll be there. As long as it is not in the morning. Boss says I've already taken enough days off to fish.

If its the weekend after the 4th and anyone has 2 seats in a boat, my hubby and I would chip in for gas and help the boat for bragging rights.

Looks like a good deal of interest at the same place, different time. Since it's a bragging rights tourney - how about running it from..crap, tonight to the Sunday after the 4th?

good enough for me since i dont plan on doing all that well and just walleye or what ever we catch

I fished two mornings and three evening bites - total of 14 walleye...only two were legal fish. Larges was 23", I don't have a scale. I fished mostly mid-lake to south 50-60 fow favoring the west side. I was dragging harnesses 75/75 with a 3 oz snap weight. I did mark some good fish in the river bed out from the dam, but couldn't get any takers. Seemed like the bite improved every time a thunderstorm would go though.

15 hours trolling on hubbard - $20, 15 hours trolling on hubbard in 70 degree weather ..priceless:D

Foote, sounds like you did pretty good. I was at the lake from sunday til friday morning, and managed 1 measley walleye. Didn't hit it to hard, but I did troll the middle grounds (churchill to hardwoods) and marked lots of fish right on the bottom? (suckers/whitefish?) I did mark a lot of fish in the top 15 too, but couldn't get anything to take. Oh well, fishing should only get better now that the bugs are finally done.

I should also say that none of the fish came in the morning - the first evening produced 5 throw backs, the next 6 throw backs and the last 1 throw back and two keepers. The first two evenings, I missed as many as I hooked - they'd mangle the crawler, and move on. Shortening the tail on the harness helped hook the fish, but I think it slowed the action. Probably should have gotten some leeches or power bait. I spent a good deal of time with one or no lines in the water. I know I had three double hits - only landing one set. I'm sure I'll be up a couple more times this summer - the fishing should get nothing but better.

A couple more times, its only july? Whose going to keep that grass trimmed? :D We're looking to get back to the lake in two weeks, now that I'm relegated to weekends, maybe we can all get a date set for the "walleye off". Siounds like you had the right technique going. I was fishing deep and didn't boat an eye til I went to the snapweights and harnasses.

Just got off the phone with my neighbor (up there). There's a Hubbard Lake Walleye Association tournament going on August 17-19. I don't have all the details yet, but know I'll be up there then...Hubbard + Walleye Tourney = Fishfoote. When I get more details, I'll post them. I was told that an Association Member has to be on the team though - my neighbor is a member, so I'll start sharpening my hooks (Wouldn't mind seeing some of my SE associates measure their metal..Fishbomb - Fish Factor:16suspect ). I've got a harness that does very well on this side of the state that may need some testing over on the east side.;)

Hubbard Lake is a hidden treasure, there's not many lakes left in the state where you can be in 10 fow and clearly see the bottom any time of the year. I'm sure I'll be putting some time into this event and encourage anyone that has yet to give the lake a try to pencil it into their summer fishing tour. I've been up there during weekends where you would think a 9,000 acre lake would be swamped with pleasure boaters and fishermen (last weekend for example) and pretty much had the lake to myself - there was litterally nobody on the water for the morning bite, and maybe 10 boats out in the evening fishing...it boggles the mind.

Thanks Encore. Does anyone know if there is still a family membership? Seems like they had a family membership about five years ago. I know my parents are members, but I can't remember if its a family membership or not? Foote, you've hit the nail right on the head. Even on the 4th of july, the lake wasn't that busy. Always been that way in the 20 years I've been going to the lake. Its a great problem.

Sure can tell you guys are from "down below" ;) .
Not that busy!? I took the Trophy down to the north end at 9:30 AM, just to give it its yearly run and there wasn't any way that I was going to launch that boat. Lot was already full and the jet skis were already out in force...... Oh, that's right, I'm usually there during the week...:p

Yes, I think that they still have a familly membership. I was playing on this darn computer last night and missed the meeting.......
Membership is extremely cheap. If I recall (?), I think a single is $10 and a family is $15. Anyway, I'm really close.
HLSIA needs new members, just about like every other orginization. ESPECIALLY YOUNG MEMBERS! I make most of the meetings, which unfortunately, the numbers of meetings have been reduced for lack of attendance. I'd have to look at the last newsletter, but there's somewhere between 500 and 600 members. Of that number of members, there MIGHT be 15 or 20 (20 if their extremely lucky) members show up at a meeting. Rarely.............. is there anyone younger than 55 show up.
HLSIA was partially responsible for the DNR lake survey that they did last year. I missed the meeting last night  , but I'm still waiting for the DNR to post the results.
Fishfoote........ you sell that place and you'll learn to hate Muskegon

Thanks encore, but if you've ever been on lakes in other parts of the state(higgins, houghton), you'll know why I think hubbard is dead. :D I forgot to ask foote whats the deal with selling that place? You sick of all the people launching next to you?

OK - before we start assigning the title "Flatlander" to anyone.

(1) I grew up in Ossineke and Spruce, graduated from Alcona High School - I'm a legacy:D

(2) My observation still stands - don't know where all the watercraft from those trailers were, but I really didn't see much during NORMAL BITE TIMES:lol:

(3) The 4-Sale signs - it's for real folks, tell your friends, 2,800 sf of comfort can be there's if the price is right..any trades on Hamlin Lake will be considered;)

I printed off a membership application from the HLSIA page. Do you mail it in and wait for a membership card or do you have to go somewhere to pick it up? Im going up this weekend and I want to get it done for the tournament. Thanks.

Just go ahead and mail it in. That's what I'd do. Good luck in the "Challenge". I got a wedding to photograph "down below" that weekend
Probably a good thing for all you guys entering the "challenge"
