Vacationing on Crooked Lake for 9 days with a boat. Any info would be greatly appreciated as I plan to fish quite a bit. Also, is there any names of close by bait shops with friendly knowedgeable people if possible. Fishing in order of preference is walleye, big pike, and then bass.

if none of the aforementioned board's experts on the area chime in for you, I can at least describe my own experiences of mild success on pickerel 10 days ago. I will send PM shortly...

Those lakes and the Petoskey area, as far as bait shops is out of my realm of experience and knowledge. I do have a son who lives there, but when we visit it isn't in a fishing mode.
Sorry, I can't help you out.
Regards,
Whit

Hi-That's quite a ways north of me, probably 75 miles or more, and I don't know much about the area at all. There's a bait shop in Alanson that might help you, look on the web or call the Indian River Chamber of Commerce, they might be able to help. Pretty lake, and that's about all I can tell you. Forgot to put this in my pm ... but I usually go to the bait store in Alanson, Young's. It is a red building right on the Hwy on the right. It sits almost right on the corner of the road that goes over the Crooked River (sorry I can't remember the name).
There was a store/trading post almost on the lake ... but last I knew it was closed up. There are a couple more baitshops around ... East Jordan & Boyne City .... but I always get lost:dizzy: and they probably are not any closer (certainly not closer after I get lost:lol: ). Although, if it is crawlers you are after ... many of the gas stations will have them. The Holiday gas station heading N out of Petoskey (right on the Hwy, left side heading N) ... they usually have a pretty good size fridge full of container type baits.
Good Luck
PS - If you are going to be there a week, I'd try, one day at least, (along with what I already PM'd you) crawler harnesses with bottom bouncers and/or snap weights, so that you are covering the water column from the top down.
