Hoping you guys and gals can point me in the right direction. Have been trying to introduce fishing to my son and step son but not with a whole lot of success. Been marking fish on the fish finder but can't seem to put them in the boat. Using ulta light rods, 4lb test line, slip bobbers, wax worms, leaf worms, crickets don't last long enough, and tear drops. Even pointing me to a lake that has a ton of small gills would help, at age 7 they are all big. Thanks in advance for all the help!

when i was younger my dad introduced me to fishing from shore because alot of the gills will hang out in the shallows at least the smaller ones so if you have somewhere to fish from shore i would try that and if i knew where you were from i could try and help point you to some gill lakes

Duncan Lake near you has a lot of 'gills.
I'd suggest drift fishing in 6-15 ft. of water using small ice fishing jigs (horizonatal presentation) with the live bait you're using plus crickets.

I second Duncan lk. Fish almost half way down the lake on the right side on the outside of the weeds and you should nail 'em.

I ice fished campbell lk on 84th a lot this winter and took home fish almost every time. there are a lot of big gills in there. i fished there a little over week ago and there were beds everywhere. i would assume that with all this heat the fish are all but off them by now but there still in there. i use a slip bobber 8-12 down with leaf worms. i fish it off the weeds line and usually catch some nice fish. theres also a some nice crappie if you can find them. good luck
