Nashville traded Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell to the Flyers for Draft Picks...
Looks like Nashville is downsizing their payroll. I heard something a while back about the team being up for sale or moving. I hate to see a what was proving to be a pretty good rivalry diminished.....but the name of the game is winning Division and making the playoffs.

I hate Nashville with a passion, but it was turning into a pretty good rivalry. Everytime we play the Preds it is intense

Next to go will be Kariya and Forsberg. Honestly, it wouldn't completely shock me to see them deal Vokoun at the trade deadline. That team is going to be stripped down to the bones. By the time the season ends, their roster is going to resemble a minor league team. Buh-bye Nashville, hello Hamilton.
Think of how pathetic this division will really be.
St. Louis is gonna be made up of Rook's and no goaltending=stank.
Chicago is gonna be made up of Rook's and no goaltending=stank.
Nashville is gonna be made up of journeyman and injured goaltenders=stank.
Columbus is gonna..............nevermind........just plain stank.
Dude, the Wings could probably go .500 and win this division. How hard is it gonna be to lock up one of the top 3 home ice seeds next year?

Well,,,, Giggy signed for 4 more years. Looks like the road to the Cup will definitely go through California at some point or another.

Won't be as difficult though with Selanne and Niedermayer retiring.;):)

I was stunned to hear it the other day too, but every NHL insider is talking about it like crazy. Apparently Scott is hinting that he's hanging em up. Anaheim wants an answer by June 28th-30th so they can figure out how do address their blueline. The word on the street is that if Niedermayer hangs em up, their gonna make a quite generous offer to Schneider to take his spot. I like Schneides and all, but he ain't no Niedermayer. If that happens, then the hot scoop is that the Wings are gonna put together the contract package necessary to sign Sheldon Souray. We'll see here in about a week or so. Should be a couple interesting developments tonight.:)

This is from a TSN.ca article:
Meanwhile, Burke awaits word from captain Scott Niedermayer, who revealed earlier this week he's contemplating retirement. One might deduce that Burke would like something definitive by July 1 so he could quickly seek a free-agent replacement in case Niedermayer quits. But Burke said he is not thinking that way.
''There's no one out there who can fill Scotty's skates,'' he said.
So, Burke said, July 1 is an insignificant date regarding Niedermayer.
''We're going to give him as much time as he wants. He deserves that.'' Added Giguere: ''We're sure hoping a little bit of rest will change his mind and make him want to stay.''
Same for Teemu Selanne.
''We sure hope that both of them will be with us next season,'' said Giguere.
But he won't phone the players to personally urge them to return.
''They know we want them back. At this point, it's more of a family matter, and I'll respect that all the way.''

Good call FE.
With the Kimmonen 6+ mil a year deal the price for a good defensemen just went through the roof. I wonder if we will end up with either Markov or Schneids. Gonna get real interesting. I have a real bad feeling that Schneids is gonna end up in Anaheim.

If it came down to an "either or" scenario,,,,, I'd take Markov without batting an eye,,,IMO.

Mlive had a story about how the Wings big name free agents are looking for more money than expected. Khan mentioned that out of Hasek, Schneider, Markov and Bertuzzi, we would only be able to sign 2. Seems like Hasek wasn't as close to re-signing as we all previously thought. Seeing as how Timonen will be making $8 million and isn't exactly elite, Schneids could possibly make close to $6 million on a desperate team. Same for Souray.
Markov showed he's a good, physical d-man, he'll make at least $3 million, or go back to Russia, and I think Kenny would rather have Schneids, which IMO is a mistake. Hasek made less than $1 million as a base this season, I'd think he's not betting on another trip to the Conference Finals and wants to be paid for what he did this year. He's probably not asking for Giguere money, but if he's wanting more than $4 million, he's no longer such a bargain.
Good thing Nashville wants to tank this season! :dizzy:
