I have been wanting to hit a hex hatch and was wondering where some places I could wade to fish this hatch? I fished around wakely bridge last night and saw a few hexs no trout rising though. I was wondering if there is anyplace between McMasters and Parmalee i could wade? Heard about Conners flatts but dont know how deep the river is there or the wirepool below parmalee? If you got any suggestuions I would ghreatly appreciate it.

Did I happen to see you and your friend around 6pm at a site? I was with my wife and we were leaving and you were tying up some flies?

How long do you guys think the hex action will be around on the river?

Cannot say for sure, but probably a lot longer than they used to.

that stretch has some failry deep water and very limited public access.
Connors Flats might be a better choice.
Below Mio there is a large amount of public access and water that can be waded.
Hex have been on the water from 10:30 until the early morning hours. The recent weather might change that.

How exactly do you get to conners flats? I know you go down conners flat road but from there I have no clue.

turn onto conors flat road off wakely bridge road and follow it for probably 4 miles or so. there is a little boat launch sign where you turn right (its a small dirt road/ 2 track). its just down there. It is fairly tough to wade there, but there are a few places where you can wade a bit downstream. I'd suggest taking a canoe and paddling upriver a ways (or use a trolling motor), waiting for a spinner fall to happen, and then slowly working downriver listening for feeding fish. Listen carefully because a lot of times they are just quietly sipping, especially later on (after 12). you can also wade a little near mcmaster's bridge. Not sure how much longer its going to be going on, we had blanket spinner falls friday-monday night and the fish were getting more picky every night.
Btw, I was staying at the cabin at Jim's canoe this weekend right at wakely bridge. You must have left by the time I got back from fishing sunday night.
Good luck,
Adam

Adam...I guess we were up there at the same time. The fish on the S Branch seemed more willing to feed than the mainstem but I only went out Thursday and Saturday nights, walking in once to the S Branch and once at Connors. Lots of bugs both nights I went out but they seemed to get full quickly and shut off by 11:30pm, about the same time the duns were hatching en masse.

Yep. We still got into some very nice fish though. Sunday night it seemed like we found more "late slurpers" and it also seemed like they were more willing to take for some reason.
I checked out a more local stream last night to see if it was happening and was dissapointed...

From what I seen and heard alot of feeding has been taking place in the daylight hours with good hatches of yes-hex during the day off the mud. Our feeding activity this year during the night has been way down with very few smaller fish as well. Talked to a knowlegable friend last night and he said buddies were doing good in the afternoons and the fish are just full come the spinner fall, of course not all but that wa the reason he thinks less fish were active during those blanket hatches. Who knows, the SB whereI fish basically had tremendous hatches with 50-70% fewer fish feeding than in years past and a ton fewer smaller fish(10-14 inchers or less). The daylight hatches were seen in the section of Conners.

If you were staying at Jim's you or one of your friends closed my truck door. Thanks again, it would have been full of the big flies if you hadn't. BTW we found the slurpers Mon night. They were so quiet my 90 yr slightly deaf uncle wouldn't fish for them but we managed to hook several nice fish in one hole. 35 yrs fishing that river and I still keep seeing amazing things.

Quick question...has the hatch died down in the last week, or is it still going strong?

This link says it peeked last weekend:
Gates (http://www.gateslodge.com/fishing.htm)
But I would say that means the crowds may be less. If you are in a boat you can hunt for fish.

I think its equal parts right place/right time...with a small amount of luck thrown in. I agree with having a boat...covering water right now is a good thing.
I fished it the last five nights. Thurs to many bugs. Friday good bugs. Saturday so so bugs. Sunday good bugs. last night...no bugs.
We had situations of tons of bugs in one area but two bends down...nothing.
I had a very nice night on Sunday, all the fish i could deal with right in front of me. Went back last night to pester those above and below me...nothing, dead quiet.
What a difference a day makes...
I think they'll still be going for awhile...just have to find them.

I ran into the same situation on saturday. It was my first time fishing the hex and i was expecting a big things. It didnt happen quite how i expected, although there were fish rising to hatching hex.
What will the rain in the forcast do to the hatch?

we didn't get enough rain to matter but this cold snap will slow it down.
