Well Lets say this post is due after many years of part time trout fishing. My buddy got me hooked a few years back when my wife and i were in town for the cherry fest and a night of Hex fishing.

I started out that time wearing duck waders and looked funny in the 80 degree heat sweating my tail off. Now I am geared out like most folks and have had minor sucess. The reason I bring this up because 7 years ago a boat came bye me and the guy in the front said get a hold of this clown, and I responding with some choice words.

Firday was the last day for teachers in my district and after one hell of a school year I left my house kissing my daughter 3 and son 7 months good bye. My fathers day gift is 2 nights fishing with no complaints, works nice. Well by the time I got through the 96 275 interchange and to my buddies place it was 6:00 and then by the time we hit the river it was 9:00 PM.

GOOd stuff
Well we hit our favorite river and we were unable to hit our choice spots because there was a crowd already so we worked in a spot and rolled upstream a bit. I sat back, listened a while and heard a wonderful comotion coming from across the river in the brush. There was a nice splash and funny nosies coming at me so I had to put my light on it, Well good thing i did, it was a small bear cub, Well soon as i did that mom growled, scared the hell out of me and i went into defesive mode in the water waiting for her to open a can of whoop _ __ on me. Well they moved on, and actually moved in write on my buddy so that was hilarious. That fool when I started to freak out was like shut up your scaring fish. I on the other hand looked like this- Picture a 6'1 270 pound man in waders holding a fly rod and doing the crane move from karate kid.

So with no success we hit the bank and just chatted and then decided to scan the water for any signs, well we heard a noise shinned the river and this fawn is coming down the stream doing moch 9. I am hoping that it got out, however do to natural selection i am sure well who knows what happened to bambi. It was interesting wildlife that night.

Saturday

Well we went running, hit a few fly shops and then hit the water around 6:30. Things were slow only a few rises and then we stopped and enjoyed the evening and around dark things started moving. Sad thing was I decided to tie on a larger fly, mean while fish were feeding all around me, right, left, front back, next to shore, at my feet, in the bushes everywhere. I in the meantime was tying one hell of a knot, because I knew I knew it was finally my time.

So i got positioned in a wonderful spot and just listend and started timing this nice fella or nice queen feeding in front of me, Well after my 3rd cast;

I must of done everything right, A was kinda hunched, arm up, leader off the water, soon as i saw water break i set that line, right then I knew it was a hog. He or she ran down stream, I yelled at my buddy get the blanking net, he was like yeah sure, well it jumped twice and he was down stream to me in a flash.

So I mean we were both in aw, my pole 5wt was bent the entire time. I would give it some slack to run, however at times it just sat there, i would move up and down stram and it was just slowy moving.I even banged the bottom of the rod to see what the hell it was doing. After 20 minutes, my hand was throbbing, cramped and hurt, I thought it was tired and got it in to the shallows and my buddy wwas their to net it, as it came bye he kept saying all this for a 14 inch fish, I yelled and then as it approached and he went to net and as it fell out of the night, ran down stream and jumped again he looked up and said, " we need a bigger net". :lol:

So Iwas like oh god, we were confident it was hooked well, because the battle kept going I brought it in again and then this time he went to net it, it darted across the straem and slightly up streama and the hook spit out. :yikes:

So at first Iwas like wow, how cool was that he was like this:gaga:

So we popped many tops and laughed about the situation. He has landed numerous 16-18 inch fish in the past, he bought a larger net for these situations, so needless to say, after 5-7 years of big fly night fishing I finally battled a big boy or girl.

In a way i am bummed that I don't have that picture, however that was a awesome just wonderful experience. I am counting it as one hell of a learning experience. There were many things I could and should have done different but that is learning.

So there is Hope, I hope that I can get out again soon, however with gas prices, 2 kids, and the masters, well I hope i get out this next weekend.

Good luck, catch those fish, enjoy that night fishing, hell if I almost did it, there is hope for anyone out there.

All I want to do is have a rematch with that fish.:lol: On a side note, I lifted weights for many years, i coach football, and I tell ya, that was liek having a 25-45 lb weight rolling around the river.

Happy fathers day

Reading that just made me remember all the interesting/exciting nights I've been through and wouldn't and couldn't trade them for anything in the world! And that is what brings me back!
