Saturday I floated Glesons to Rainbow Rapids, Saw quite a few fish, but most of them were moving through. Did find a couple holes 3 hook-up 2 landed. From the other people that I talked with it was slow Saturday. Water was merky because of the rain Friday. Had 2 fish in the cooler so Sunday decided to go check out the flies only section. Put in at Green Cottage, There were A LOT of people fishing there and a good reason to. This section was full of fish, everwhere you looked. Had to float a distance before finding a open spot, but it was worth it. 5 hook-ups 3 Pictures. If you are just looking for catch and release and don't have a boat, Green Cottage acces would be the way to go, but get there early if you want a spot, especially on the weekend it fills up fast.

Chef,
What line and rig setup were you using? I am headed to the Muskegon or PM in two weeks and am a first time steelhead/salmon guy.
I have heard of chuck and duck and slinkies, and to be honest these two rigs don't sound like much fun to cast. I would think a sinking tip would be easier to cast but does it produce as effectively and C&D and/or a slinky rig?
Thanks for any tips.

That's a good question. I have several sink tips lines with loop to loop lead core extension I can put on them also. Would this get it down as far as a slinky?
That depends on where I am fishing. If I am fishing were I have room for a back cast and it is less than 5-6 ft deep I use my wf floating line to about 8 feet of 15# Berkeley with just a small amount of shot on the end of it (not enough to make it hard to cast) with about 3 feet of 8# vanish to my fly. if it is deeper or in a tight spot I use amnesia to about 6 feet of 15 # Berkeley to a barrel swivel to about 2 ½ ft of 8# vanish to my fly. with my weight sliding on my line before the barrel swivel. hope this helps. the chuck and duck rig is not as fun but it works.

Unfortunately didn't fish hardly at all- got to the river after dark both sat. and sun. (roads were bad and we were closing the cabin for the winter). The weather was kinda snowy (almost non-stop) but it was beautiful. Didn't catch anything, but it was beautiful just to be out there. I hear that many more fish have moved up into the fly water, so anyone interested may want to head up soon before it gets too cold and the fish stop eating so much. Just a warning, the roads were horrible so don't drive fast and leave yourself plenty of extra time!
Peace and tight lines,
Ryan
