Sometime around the third inning I heard another Rod-ism. The Tigers were pouring it on pretty good, and Rod shouts out:

"Momma--make 'em stop!"

Classic.

I guess I didn't catch that. He's probably pretty proud, and maybe rightfully so. I guess if he got paid to do it, then he's better than 99.9% of the people who ever played the game.

Good for him.

My favorite from last night was when he told Mario "We might as well be married!" Marios reaction was quite comical too. Have you guys checked this out?

That was hilarious! I think it was right after Sheff's homer in the 3rd.

Those two really do work well together. I'm watching more games than ever now.

Thats a joke. Ya know, sarcasm?
I do respect him for playing in that league but it seems EVERY single game, he brings it up. It gets annoying.

Right.

I've seen some posters throwing Rod under the bus, but I kind of like him. Mario's play by play is great, and Rod's experience mixed with his catch-phrase comic relief makes it a good show to watch. "That's what they do."

I WAAAAY prefer listening to him over those biased ass-wipes from ESPN. Those guys are always running the Tigers down. Even last year in the playoffs. It was kind of distracting to watch it because the criticism, especially during the New York series, was harsh and relentless.

One of my favorites from Rod is when sheff hits a home run he will say "He's a Bad man" a Baaaaad man. I go around saying it for hours afterwords  And like quick strike says those guys are waaaaay better than them clowns on Espn of course it doesn't matter what Michigan team is playing there always for the other team ever notice that ?

I agree. Can't stand the games on ESPN. VERY biased and VERY biased to the Yankees.

I like watching the Tigers on TV but LOVE listening to them on the radio!! Excellent play by play announcers and excellent commentary too!! True pros.

Couldn 't agree more. Yankees definitely have the love of ESPN announcers. And Tigers radia is excellent. I look forward to Dan Dickerson whenever I'm on the road, or when TV isn't available.

All the current announcers are good. I do get a bit tired of Rod and Mario's home bias. I do want them to be biased but sometimes they can go a bit overboard. I still miss Ernie and Paul though! I think they had the perfect balance.

They certainly aren't afraid to point out when the Tigers do something wrong though, either. A base running blunder by Magglio did not go unpunished, so to speak.

I remember that conversation. I think the same thing happened with Rabello (sp?) when he didn't take home on a wild pitch. It was kind of silly looking because the Texas catcher was floppin' around on the ground at the backstop and Rabello was standing on 3rd watching him.

Also, another good piece was when they were talking about how Verlander wasn't allowed into the stadium that day becasue he left his MLB ID and his wallet at the hotel because he "didn't like the way it looked in his pocket."

There was a great Rod moment in last night's game. I can't remember what inning it was, but they were just coming back from commercial. And the camera's were showing a shot of the White House. And Mario made a comment about the nation's capital, or something like that, and Rod chimes in. He goes "There's a nice shot of the White House. Hey Partner, you think George and uh.......uhm......uh.........is it Barbara? in there tonight?"
Mario-"George and Laura?"
Rod- "That's right, Laura."
:lol::lol: That was cracking me up. You could tell in his voice, he was drawing an absolute blank of the name of the First Lady.

I caught that one as well-I also liked when they were talking about the characrer race and he said that the George Washington character won and then realized it was Jefferson and proceded to excuse it by saying "thats what you get when its a 12-0 game."

Rod and Mario far exceed Frank Beckman and Jim Price when they did TV a few years ago, or even Lewin and Gibby.

I love Rod, he makes the games fun to watch an is VERY knowledgable about the game of baseball.

The three innings he announces on the radio is like scraping your nails on a chalkboard. Stick to the commentary, Jim.

Absolutely. I have a hard time listening to Price's play by play in the 4th-6th. His commentary, or little in's and out's of the game are much much easier to listen to. Also, I will say, and maybe it's just me, but I for one happen to like Dan Dickerson. That's why I wish they would just leave Double "D" alone for the whole 9 innings. And Jim can just chime in a little here and there.

I agree, I like Dan Dickerson, I think he calls a great game. I just don't understand why they put Price on play by play when he has no voice inflection whatsoever to describe what's going on over the radio.

Let's not lose sight of the point of this thread, Rod Allen is great! I also forgot to mention earlier about when he was talking about Desperate Housewives, and how his wife forced him to watch it at first, but it wasn't long before he was taping the episodes:lol:

When talking about the Tigers playing against the Braves this spring, Mario asks: "Didn't we (the Tigers) hit Smoltz pretty good this spring?"

Rod's response: "We beat him like he stole somethin'."

Priceless.

Yeah, I really like Dan Dickerson. I wish they would hire Gibson or someone to do the color commentary.

I think Jim Price has some nude pictures of the Illitch's or something. He was doing 3 innings when him and Ernie were doing the games to spell him. I guess when they hired DD, he said he would quit if he didn't get to still do the 3 innings. Geez, what were they thinking? Sayonara....

I enjoy listening to Rod and Mario - ESPECIALLY after watching the game they DON'T broadcast. Some of those guys just refuse to give any credit to the Tigers. (especially when they're playing a NY team) :16suspect

After loading the bases and hitting Morineau to walk in a run, Miller throws three straight strikes to get out of the jam.

Rod pronounces this:

"LOOK OUT STRETCH!"

Yet another classic Rodism.
