My question is regarding the benefits and necessity of a Peep Sight. My son shoots without a peep. Is a peep sight really required for accurate and consistent shooting?

Not necessary no.
But of the 3 axis the peep encompases all 2 and many times the 3rd as well.
Good shooting is nothing more than consistency. The peep provides a very specific anchor point or point of reference in regards to repeatability.
Some people are machines and rarey waiver. Most aren't.
There are other anchors as well that can make a peep redundant....Kisser button will do the same thing but needs to have a level or some other horizantal form of anchor.
No peep covers all 3 all the time.
There are other rifle sight style gadgets that eliminate a peep but accomplish the same thing in essence.
Welcome to the site btw. Just noticed where your from...I'm at Alex's on 12 every thurs around 1pm

I like peep sights and will always use them. I have installed them for inconsistant shooters and have seen them improve greatly. The only downside is that sometimes they are hard to see through durring extreme lowlight conditions. To me, that's past the time of safe shooting anyway. If you decide to go with a peep I would recommend G5's Meta Peep. It's light and durable.
Welcome to the site! Enjoy.

I have used a PSE Mongoose peep and loved it. It's 3/8" in diameter. You'll have no problems in low loight.
I can't find them by me however. Walmart usually has the identical one for $2.50 though come late summer. It's made by Bohning or Allen.

Some guys don't like the surgical tubing, but I hate not having it. I've had too many problems with Fletcher Tru-Peep's etc not rotating when it counted most.

as a youth i never had one on my hunting bow and it was not a problem. went off to school out of state down in texas and stuck around for 10 years. when i moved back up the bows had changed so much that i had to go with a peep on it. i believe the shorter bows just don't give you the look of a longer bow, now i could not go into the woods with out a peep. plus it does give me another anchor point. so i shoot with 4 anchor point. peep, kisser, arrow fething touching chin and thumb locked behind neck with finger running down the jaw bone

I have 2 rigs I shoot. I use a kisser button and three point anchor with my
Darton but for some reason I could not use that system with my Ross. The Ross has a slightly shorter A to A and I had to use a peep sight and it works great. I use the G5 Meta peep. The peep definatly took the guess work out of shooting. One less thing to worry about at the moment of truth.
