I'm looking to upgrade my strings this year, does anyone know of a good place around Lansing. I had some work done on my Trykon up at Jays last year but it was sub-par.
Thanks
Eddie

Is Jackson too far for you? You could try Schubach's. I've always had good luck with them.

If you're going to drive to Jay's stop in Sanford at Moonlight Archery and see Gordy Jenison. He's an awesome guy, great fast work and affordable. He operates out of a shop at his house, but is very credible and will do things right. He specializes in Darton's however.

Check out Whitetail Archery in Perrington. Chip can build your strings, tune your bow and has a very nice 3D course. The phone number is 989-838-2261. Whitetail is north of Lansing not too far from the Maple River Floodings on 127. They are open daily for normal business hours.

I always go to arrowhead because they are close and most of the time they know what they are doing but again Bruce thinks he knows everything but anthony (the younger one) is pretty dang good... i had them put all new strings and stuff on my bow a few years back and they did a great job

That's his name, Bruce. Anthony is nice and very good. Bruce has driven many customers away, because he forgets rule #1 the customer is always right. Plus he doesn't have an opbjective bone in his body.
Shupbachs, like anywhere else, have some people better than others, but they get my business.

Agreed about Arrowhead. Anthony was cool to work with but the old man and his wife need an attitude adjustment.

I've been to Bullseye and it was a dump:sad: .......not open any normal hours, and all the merchandise he has for sale is old and dusty. I was very disappointed.
Arrowhead Archery in Eaton Rapids is the place to go. Anthony will do you right;) . Every time I walk in he has a great attitude and a welcoming greeting. He does great work and and gives quality advice and service. My best friend from out of state wants to go there every time he comes to visit. And every time we go Anthony is great with customer service and helping with anything we need. I strongly recommend. Anthony has done great with every archey need I've had and I won't go anywhere else!
Never delt with the parents but I've heard about their "attitude" 90% of the time Anthony is there and will do ya right!
Good Luck!:coolgleam

Liffords archery is about 10 minutets SW of lansing on Lansing road. Its right by Dons truck stop. The inventory is nothing to brag about but when it comes to working on your equipment and personal service he is top notch.

I'm surprised these two weren't mentioned for the Lansing area:
There's a Mathews dealer w/outdoor 3D range on Forest Hill Road north of Wacousta....can't think of their name right now. (you could google 'em, or try the online yellow pages) They have a summertime 'expo' that has sort of taken the place of the expo that was a fixture at the now defunct Anderson's of Grand Ledge. I don't know how skilled they are with other brands....but they do seem to know Mathews cold.
And then there's a Hoyt dealer in Fowler, about 25 miles from Lansing ---Becker's Archery. It's a small shop but it's a full-time shop with an indoor 'techno-shoot' target facility. The head mechanic came out of the shop in Carson City and he seems to have a very loyal following.
Lastly, just a word on Jay's. Unfortunately, it is not as kind as I would like to post. ........... For many years I thought Jays' was as good as you could get for an archery shop - big inventory of bows and accessories; an indoor target facility where you could test drive; knowledgeable clerks handling floor duties; and a pretty darn good staff doing the mechanical & rigging part.
In fact, before I retired I travelled extensively throughout the country and I made a point of visiting archery shops when I had a free evening in Atlanta, or Denver, or Chicago, or wherever .....I saw a ton of low-budget poorly maintained shops run by guys who were trying to make a buck off of their hobby. Then there was Jay's. A big 'department' in a big hookn'bullet store.... staffed by guys were helpful and knowledgeable. They stood out --way out ---from what was available anyplace else.
But, nothing lasts forever. They still have a big inventory but their staffing...as of just a few months ago...was not what it once was. Now it's youngsters who probably rotate throughout the departments in the store. They just don't seem to have quite the knowledge ...or confidence in their knowledge.....that he older staff had. The 'mechanics' counter is long gone.
