...now that we've had a couple cold days... what tactics would you use? We'll say the lake is fairly large... has some sandy points, weed edges, and some nice 3-4' deep flates with scattered weeds.

4 inch senkos over some pretty thick weeds. Take your time and let them look at it. it's gonna be tough.

I would start out with a crankbait as a "search bait" and target any cover possible, like the flats with isolated weeds. From there I would throw a 5" lizard on those same flats and points as well. I'm assuming the spawn is mostly over for the largemouth. But you may have a few guarding beds. If you're still having trouble, use your graph (aka- the fish liar) to tell you how the fish are set up. But I would say your best bet is the weed edges. Good luck!
btw - how are you liking that tracker?

The Tracker is proving to be a MUCH better fishing platform than the old Glastron!

F11 Original Floating Rapala - Perch color on 8# Cajun Red ultra cast, spooled on spinning tackle. Targeting any structure.
For some reason "Gold" seems to be working for me this year and the gold on the perch sides/underbelly are working on the LM's. 2nd choice would be a gold/black/white jointed Rapala followed by XR8 X raps (black/gold and ghost).

This guy knows his gear!!! :chillin:
Interesting question. I was thinking the same for Saturday. My first thought is fish slow or throw the spinners and cover lots of water. i am interested to know what that water temp will be. Did it hold it self or drop severly? Slow Senko might be the trick. depends on where the largemouth are at with the bedding.

Don't rule out fast working Rattle Traps or like baits. Cold or not, those always produce thru out spring and early summer. You'll get any active fish and make some other strike that wouldn't normally. Make sure your ripping them through the weeds (or ticking them just on top) or bouncing off structure. Your sure to pick up some reactionary strikes that you might not have otherwise .

As a search bait, spinner baits or ratle traps depending on the cover. If you're in heavy cover blue/chartruse spinnerbaits worked slow have always been a favorite of mine. If more open cover (i.e. weed edges and the like) a rattle trap is usually pretty good.
Once the fish are located slow down and work a texas rigged worm or lizard in the area.

I'm fishin a tourny tonite and the plan is senkos and cranks around the rocks we prefished on Sun. then we'll finish the night rattin in the lilly pads.
If we can get 5 in the boat early, we may switch to flippin hula grubs in search of bigger fish.

Dont be afraid to clean a little of the green stuff off your hook, try some manns -1 or similar type lure in those flats. When the sun comes out (92 tomorrow?) try some bomber 4a/6a's on the drop off, if all else fails throw a senko!

Well, I'm off to the lake. Thanks for the advice everyone. And ask anyone who knows me... a senko will be thrown often!! But I have a rod with a chrank, a spinnerbait, a finesse jig, texas rig, and a jiggin worm all rigged. Oh, and one with a Rapala 12 minnow just for good measure. Talk about a crowded deck!!

Half the reason I told you to throw a senko is because I knew you loved to do that. The other half is I know it will work.

So what was hot for you? We had a hard time finding the bass last night. Caught a few but not many. Cought some nice pike on the spinnerbait.

We got our two keepers on Senkos... one texas rigged in 1' of water in the lilly pads, and one in 4' of water wacky rigged. I also lost a nice fish using a Swimsenko in 2' of water near the shore weeds. My partner also lost a nice one on a black senko t-rigged. I think if it weren't for his swing for the fences hook set (ala thedude) he'd have landed his fish. Mine got off while racing to get him out of the weeds. Also caught a few shorts on a floating rapala (we caught at least 6 fish that were 13 1/2 - 13 7/8ths... just couldn't make em tick the line!!)

Glad to hear the floating rapala was working.;) Sorry they didn't measure up.
I'm always the odd man out. I am suprised no one mentioned the jig and pig (or some other trailer). Fished in the minimal size required to maintain bottom contact, I would have started the search for the big girls on the botom off the primary break line with blue and black..........
