Well I was out walleye fishing this Sunday and caught quite a surprise. I was fishing an inland lake that is connected to Lake Superior, but I still found it very surprising. Anyway here's the story. We were bottom bouncing some contours and I decided to put a deep diver off the back of the boat, and see if I could maybe get lucky. I don't often catch fish on the back rod as we usually go quite slow. Sunday we were only going about .8 mph, and the back rod went down. I got up to check it and figured it was fouled up, because it wasn't very heavy and I could still feel the wiggle of the crankbait. Well as I got it closer I started to think "something ain't quite right here" the lure was coming with little to no extra resistance, but it was staying down for too long. I mentioned to my fishing partner that maybe this was a fish, and then I saw an outline of a fish and all hell broke loose. That fish dove down and pulled out a ton of drag. Surprised the crap out of me. I have never had a fish run on me like that before. Anyway I was totally confused, because I figured it had to be a big ol northern or a 15 pound walleye to take off like that, but it didn't look like it was that long. I fought it for another 3 or 4 minutes and when it finally came in the boat I couldn't believe my eyes:

We were jumping up and down, and whooping and hollering. A little vengeance was served after having one a couple of pounds lighter than this one get off in the big lake and in the procede to spit a spoon and attached dipsy at our heads.
What a day.
