BC archery shoot this weekend By Angela E. Lackey (angelalackey@mdn.net)
Take aim and fire at a different type of fundraiser this weekend.
The Bullock Creek School District Student Assistance 3-D Archery Shoot is 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and is open to adults and youths accompanied by adults. It will be at Mid-Michee Bowmen Inc., 151 S. Nine Mile Road in Lee Township.
The cost is $10 for 30 3-D tickets and one raffle ticket. Prizes range from a Great Lakes Loons bat with the team's signature to quivers, bow rangers and all kinds of archery equipment.
There will be a free breakfast for early shooters, and food for sale during the event. There also will be a silent auction. All money will go to BC student needs. The shoot raised $2,000 its first year and $4,000 its second year. This is the event's third year.
The whole thing started when BC librarian Spencer Korson was in archery leagues with his friend, Mark Habitz. Korson enjoyed the sport so much he wanted to have some kind of archery event.
"Mark said, 'Why not raise money for kids?'" Korson said.
BC counselor Jennifer Brown knows many children who need anything from hats and gloves to socks and underwear.
"There's such great need," Korson said.
Last year's archery shoot money was used for such things as gift cards for food, personal care items for high school students, a hotel room for a family evicted from its home and much, much more.
"We just don't have the funds to meet these needs (otherwise)," Brown said.
For more information, call Korson or Brown at (989) 631-2340.
