I'm thinking of getting a 6' 2 peice ultra light St. Croix Premier rod and I was wondering if you could make a thread and ask about them and how St. Croix Premier rods handle, how the action is, how well does St. Croix stand by it's warenty. I've read both good and bad things so any opinions would be good

What a timley question. I just broke my St. Croix 5'6" ultralight rod, it snapped 2 inches from the tip. My rod was made in June of 2003 so It looks like its still covered (5 years) per the web site. Im going to send it back and see what they do. This will be my second rod going back, first was an uglystick and I was basically told to piss off because I lost that tip in the water.
The St. Croix is primarily a panfish rod but it has landed many bass over 20" as well as a few rainbows, walleyes and pike. The only fish it couldnt handle was a carp that I couldnt lift off the bottom. This is my current favorite rod, I like the fast action. The only problem I have is powerpro line getting wrapped up on the tip due to lightness of line.

never really had a problem with them. i did bust my 5'6" ultra light rod fishin for gills, carp came a gobbled the leaf worm. paid S&H and thats it. good action rods, they do have a tendency to snap because they are usually a little stiffer than most, but the feel of a tiny nibble is incredible. good choice, but make sure you take care of 'em, they can be pricy!

I got two of the premier rods for christmas at 110 a piece. Both of them broke, and I am in the process of sending them back to St. Croix. It does cost to send them back. I was wondering about the durability of these rods, because to have two of them break? The first one broke half way up when I set the hook on a snag, and the second broke near the tip when I was fighting a fish. I shall see if they stand behind their product or not.

On my first trip out with a brand new 5' ultralight premier the rod shattered while making a cast. I sent it back to st. croix and waited for a response. After waiting for about a week i got a call from the service department and they said the rod was made in 2000 so my warrenty was void (even though i argued that i just purchased the rod last year. The service rep didnt believe me and told me i could only recieve a $35 credit towards a new rod. Luckily i was able to find the receipt proving the date of purchase. After still more skepticism they finally sent me a new rod for only the shipping cost.
All in all i was EXTREMELY dissappointed that the rod broke the first time i used it. I was also shocked to find out the rod i purchased was sitting on the shelf for six years before i bought it. I own three other st. croix rods and have never had problems with breaking rods before.
I don't think i will give my business to st. croix anymore-G.Loomis makes excellent rods at comparable costs, plus everything they make comes with a lifetime warranty. just my 2 cents.

I have 3 of them and have not had any problems. One is 7 years old and gets used a lot. Can't speak for thier customer service, never had to use them.
