I am new to fletching arrows. I am putting blazers on. How far from the nock should the be placed? My new jig is only set up for straight placement. The guy at Gander Mountain said that would be best. Before I wrote this I read on an earlier thread other guys are usin a helical set. Any input is appreciated

Mine are about 1.5" from the end of the shaft . I use a helical clamp on my Bitzenburger jig , but it doesn't give much helical because the fletch doesn't span the length of the clamp . You can offset them just far enough to maintain good fletching contact with the shaft .

I fletch my own arrows with Blazers using a right helical (4 Deg), because that was what my Bitzenburger jig is. With a Blazer, straight is fine. From the nock, mine are set 1/2" away, I have heard the further back the better.

You should try to get some helical if you can. It's hard with blazers but it can be done. I was a big Blazer fan (and still am) but I found that NAP Quick Spin Speed Hunter vanes are better by far. Easier to fletch because you fletch them straight, and you get much, much better rotation than regular Blazers. They are somewhat hard to find but worth the search if you can locate them!
