Took a number of shots today at some carp spawning in a local ditch. I was shooting at probably about 20-25 feet and didn't haul any in. I could have swore I made some direct hits and the arrow glanced off the fish! I'm shooting a PSE compound at about 55 lbs with fiberglass arrow. Am I not hitting the fish squarely or is this too far and the arrow loses its energy? The fish aren't deep, probably about 2 feet of water. Just looking for some tips/suggestions how I can be successful in this new (to me) sport!

Aim lower, you would be very surprised at how much light gets refracted under the water. Stick your arrow under the surface of the water and try to touch it with your hand, you will see how much a difference there is, and that is just at the surface. Aim lower.

I use to do a lot of bow fishing many moons ago.Depending on how deep the fish were the water refracts the light. So the fish are not were they appear to be. Shoot a little low and you should connect on them. Your setup sounds fine. Just my .02

Are the shots that you miss completely consistently low or high, It is always a good sign to be shooting too low then too high. the deeper the fish are and the further away they are the lower you need to aim. If youre sure you glanced off of the fish try different points, I have had very good luck with the Muzzys.
