WALLEYE MIKE
06-02-2007, 01:10 PM
43" 16lbs. (via boga grip) caught in front of the tower in New Baltimore.

Lure of choice. Available for $6.99 at BPS or Gander Mnt. Should explain. Someone on the radio asked what I was using. Then called me cheap because it wasn't a $20 "musky" lure.

The problem was with the throttle control. It shifted itself. Everything was about 3" off of normal. Thought it was in nutural but was actually in reverse. Once I figured it out we were on our way. Got to get it back to the right postion. Nice talking to ya.

Started the day out of Fair Haven. First fish of the day was about a 3 lb smallmouth on the third cast with a white bucktail. 3 casts later hooked into a long musky that was as slender as a hot dog. Shook off at boatside as I was reaching for the net. It was still before 6 in the morning. The next fish was a 27 inch pike, still while casting, but with a bucher shallow raider in perch color. Started to troll from there toward New Baltimore. Was resetting a line after checking for weeds and had a fat 40 incher just about yank the rod out of my hand before I could get it back in the holder. My carpeting which was clean is now slimy. Got him on a jointed white belly perch maison musky killer just out from Marsak Point.
Last fish of the day came back at Fair Haven. I stopped to make a few more casts with the white bucktail and looked down to see a 38 inch fish just above the weeds along side of the boat. Took threes casts once he started moving to get him to turn and follow the bait. Sped up the retrieve and he followed it into the big circle before hitting along side the boat. Slimed again.
Did not take any pictures today. Wanted to get the fish back in the water as quickly as possible. Kudos to Walleye Mike. Am anxious to hear how the rest of the Tin Navy fared.
We looked at the flat lake, the sun, and decided to go bass fishing. I don't know eaxactly how many we caught, but I have seen a whole lot better bassin, and a lot worse too.

We were near New Baltimore on a south troll when the reel screamed. Waterfoul (Mike) grabbed the rod and boated a 43" 18lb musky. My buddy Tom netted it.

At 10, we pulled the rods, headed for the dock and grabbed the bass rods. Ended up at the 400 apts. and killed em.
Great day on the water with my buddy Tom and Mike.
Thanks again to everyone who helped with advice and a HUGE thank you to Gone Fishing for the use of his equipment. It was a fantastic experience.

Nice job on the fish guys!! We were shut out on the muskie but did boat a few nice smallies trolling. My nephew's first time out and he had a ball trying to reel them in on the big rods. He got a little bored w/ the trolling thing so we went after a few pan fish for a while. We were off the water about 10:00. Tried to listen to Neal on 97.1 but my nephew was a little cranky at the time and said he wanted some peace and quiet:lol: . We did see a few nice fish around Cotton road while fishing for pans. Wish I would have had time to do a little casting.

I caught a 41" musky on a crawler harness this morning while walleye fishing by the light tower. Only got 4 eyes this morning. The musky was a fat one. I did not weigh it. I estimate it made 14 Lbs. though. :D

My son and I managed two apiece then went Musky trolling. The silvers were unbelievable today. Mushy came by and showed us the tiny little blades he was using. We didn't have anything that small and he wasn't giving away any free samples. Remember Mush, I said I'd take a dozen!

I know you all about freaked. All toothys today were Northerns, with a few mooskie follows. Including a very respectful, knee knocking heart stopping high 40's to possibly 50" She came out of the depth after one of my Bin Laden baits in a smallmouth color. The best fish of the day was a 34 1/2" pike. Tried again at night, with no luck. Heading out tomarrow for the search of the big blondie, with red freckles.

Fished with my father, future father-in-law and Castmaster. Started out at the tip of Metro and trolled to 9 mile and back in various depths w/o a hit. Pulled lines and moved to Anchor Bay and went 1 for 1 40" ski with a big chunk out of the side of it. Picture was taken on a non digital camera, so picture to come. All in all a very slow day, but at least we mangaed one fish. Good to talk to some of you guys on 68.

Doing the right thing. Way to go Jill.
Size of the fish? ..... who cares.. they were beautyful and they are avaliable for you to catch right now, because of an excellent catch and release fishery we have here in our backyards.

May what a fight that ski put up!! Took about 100 feet of line after the initial strike and then shook it's head at me all the way to the boat!
After this I initiated Due and Tom to Senko fishing. I think they are hooked! Pun intended. We boated at LEAST 40 smalles near the 400 club apts. with a 2+ pound average easy. Many fish over 3 lbs. Biggest of the day I believe was a 3.8 pounder.
Thanks a TON for your hospitality Due. I had a really good time.
Oh, and your SIL is hot!!!

We launched right around 6am, right behind Shametamer. I had a buddy from work. Don had been fishing St Clair with a guide by the name of Brunner or something like that, so he was guiding me where to go. Neither of us had landed a muskie before. I had a Perch Super Shad Rap, a bucktail spinner, a couple jigs and swimbaits, and a red headed Bomber (the big 10"). Don had went hog wild the nite before and had a couple hundered dollars in new baits and nice muskie casting rod and reel. Heck, I even threw a few mag salmon spoons at them.
We started to troll the South end of Anchor Bay and stayed in about 8 fow changing baits as we went. Trolled all the way to New Baltimore. Just off Brandenburg I moved into deeper water because of the weeds. Turned around about the New Baltimore tower. Shortly after, I glanced back at one of the rods off the port side, and it was doubled over and bouncing. Fish on. Don grabbed it and started fighting. I didn't think it was a big fish because it wasn't taking line, but it turns out that Don forgot to set the clicker on the reel after putting it out. The fish ripped off 180' of line in no time, and put up a heck of a fight. Coming to the surface a few times. Finally got it to the boat and I netted it.
Then the newbie stupidity took over, I reached in the net and tried to pull the hooks out with my hand and got a nicely sliced thumb for my effort. Got my wits back about me, and used the pliers and then hoisted her up. I measured her as Don held her up and I got 42", but that was a bit on the short side since I was bleeding profusely and wanted to get her back in the water. Took a couple pictures with Don's camera (hope to post them tomorrow) and back in she went to fight another day.
She had a ton of open sores on ther back, and we originally thought VHS, but after talking about it, looked more like she had been hit by a prop or something. Was way to fat and healthy otherwise to have that many sores and be VHS. Hopefully, it isn't and she survives. We took her on a Shad colored Super Shad Rap 20 ft off the side of the boat.
While putting my 2 new lures away, I noticed the Bomber had teeth marks in it. Never noticed that hit, but it was definitely hit, just didn't hook up.
We ran over to Grassy Island by the North Channel later in the day and worked the drop off, but didn't stay long. The water was only 55 degrees, and there were no weeds. Headed back to New Baltimore and casted for a while. Then moved back to Anchor Bay. Headed home about 1pm after I broke my casting rod. Not sure what happened, just casted and snap there went my rod tip. Was an old, cheap rod, anyway. At least it didn't happen while I was hooked into a fish.
Having had the thrill, I'll definitely be at it again. Wife isn't going to like me loading up on Muskie lures now!

Here's our Musky from Saturday. My buddy, Don, reeled her in. It was his first Musky, and the first one on my boat. You can see the sores on her side, had more along the back and on the other side. Not sure what caused it, hope it isn't VHS. I know that fish I've caught with VHS with that many wounds have been thin and sick looking, not like this fish, so I hope she survives.

Great looking fish guys. I hope to get out there this weekend myself.:)
Where is the report with pics from "Fish Sean"???
Not really much to report 0 for 0 on Muskies. We eventually switched over to wally baits and also got skunked by them.
We did boat a 29" pike, and a couple of nice bass. Slow day of fishing, but great company. Thanks again Sean.
