View Full Version : Platte
Fished all nite Sunday morning, not really too much to say, hooked a few kings, and a couple of cohos, most fish pretty dark. Not too much to say for the steel and browns, doubt that it will be much good this year, the water is so low and clear you can't really drift through there and get any feel for whats happening. Oh well I'll keep trying.
Toto, are you getting bored of salmon? It must be hard for you, living up there in fishing heaven! Maybe you should come down here for awhile and trade places with me!
As for the steelhead runs only time will tell. It sure would seem like you would be able to at least find some, good grief you've got how many rivers to choose from :p Did steve ever make it up or was he afraid of the boogie man?

Nah, he didn't make it, it must have been the boogey man. I know it seems crazy that I am getting bored with salmon. But thats what I get for being spoiled. The steelies will show up soon I hope, I think the next good rain will bring them in, and I'll be there, I hope its the first week of November as I will be on vacation and fishing all week. Now now don't pity me, its one of those crosses I must bear. :)
hey toto i was up on the plate on sunday night into monday morning. that was some hard stuff to fish!! the fish were so spooked. i never did get a salmon, though i did manage to get a 13" brookie on a micro egg fishing the only fishable dark hole that i could find. i fished till 11am and went to the betsie and tried for steel. landed one nice fish and lost a lot of flies on kings. there were some fresh noids in there if anyone is intrested.

I tell ya Chef, the Platte is always a little tough to fish, but the lower stretch below the lower weir, is almost impossible to drift a spawn sac, or fly. The water just isn't hardly moving. About the best bet on the lower stretch is to use a spinner that they sell a Backcast Fly Shop in Benzonia. Other than that, it ain't an easy river to fish anywhere really. But can be quite interesting if the water comes up.
