That's a tuffy! I have 43 different combos for a multitude of species:D ! If I had to choose just one it would be......? Man,thats gonna be harder than I thought:confused: ! I fly fish,I use spinning rigs,I have 9 baitcasters, two centerpins(4 float rods to boot). Not to mention tip ups and bow fishing rigs and......:dizzy: ...You get the idea;) .
Just one=7' St. Croix med/heavy baitcast rod with an Abu Garcia 6600,It makes quick work of everything, they last forever and I've had three of them since......a long time ago:lol: !

I have a Shimano Clarus 6'6" MH spinning rod W/ a Shimano SpireX 2000 (20# braid) I'm pretty fond of - and I have a few Baitcasters I like also - one 6.5' Berkley BioniX IM7 with a Pinnacle Inertia 9BB reel (30# braid) - but I might put my Shimano Citica 200D on that rod... or get another rod like it...LOL!!
Time to go fishin' YET????

Have WAY too many to pick from, but I have a pair of Loomis 6' medium action casting rods, teamed with Cabela's Prodigy reels w/8lb. Fireline - that get the most use. Casting cranks for Smallies/Walleyes + verticle jigging for 'Eyes. C-man

the next one!
As far as second place in my favorites list, I have no clue.
My absolute favorite combo is an Orvis Zero Gravity 9' tip flex 6 wt with an Orvis Vortex reel.
I guess in baitcasters (other than muskie rods) I just have to say what I use most, which is a Loomis GL2 7'6" ? - 3/4 oz rod with a Daiwa TDX reel
or maybe the St Croix Avid 7' with a TDX.
Spinning rods 7' rated to 5/8 oz GL2 with a Daiwa Capricorn.
Or maybe the 7' 6" Avid (rated to 1/2 oz) with whatever reel fits it's use for the day, usually has an Abu Tournament or a Diawa Capricorrn on it.

hmmm, probably my quantum accurist 2 baitcaster matched up with a legend tournament series blank (SCIV) that I custom built.
second to that would be a GL2 SJR722 with a symetre 2000, though I am building a legend elite (SCV) 4S60MF blank into something special, so that may take top reigns for a spinning rod once completed.
for fly fishing, i just love my SCIV (legend ultra at the time) 9' 5wt 4pc with a redington GD reel. its like poetry in motion casting that thing. For heavy weights, my all star austin 9' 9wt is a cannon teamed with a Ross Big Game 4 reel.

5'6" Ugly Stik Lite spinning rod, inexpensive ($11.99) Shimano 4000 reel, 8# Cajun Red ultra cast, #3 nickel snap ball bearing swivel, F11 Rapala original floater - Perch.
I now have 3 Ugly Stik Lites (5'6" - 6'6") each with a Shimano reel running from 2# mono to 30# Powerpro. For less than $60 (rod, reel, line, swivel) it is a worthy consideration for newbies - like me. Light, responsive and even catches fish. However, I can easily see myself graduating to a second mortgage on the house for a boat, motor, trailer, high end rods, reels and of course MORE LURES.:dizzy:

Pretty much any St. Croix/Shimano combo for me. I have a 6'6" Premier with a magnesium Stradic on. I like that combo,, the rod is a little lighter than my liking but PERFECT for perchin'. I"ll be gettin' a lil heavier St. Croix in a month or so,, for some bass and walleye.

My favorite rod/reel is the one that catches me that kicker fish that puts us in the money at a tournament!! I don't care which combo it is!!!'
If I had to pick: Baitcaster would be Shimano Curado on my Gander Tournament Series 6'6" IM8 rod. Spinning would be my Quatum Kinetic PTi 200 on my St. Croix 6'6" medium spinning rod.

Both my wife and myself have Shimano Spinning Reels loaded with 4lb. line mounted to Berkleys Light action cherry wood rods. I absolutely love this setup. I have caught steelhead, bass, crappie, and blue gill on this setup and look forward to trying some walleye on it also. I caught a 30" steelie with it this spring casting spinners. Very sensitive can feel everything.

I love my 7' MH bc rod with my quantum accurist PT spooled with 12lb sufix. I have caught countless bass and pike with it and never had any problems with it.
My second choice would be my 10' M grand travers tackle steelie rod. For $25 this buy far the best rod for they money I own.

my favorite this year is a bps xtreme (ext1000) left handed baitcaster on a 7'6" MH/Fast B&R Outlaw rod. Spooled up with 50lb power pro and a 15lb pline floro leader. I can flip a 1/4 oz jig just as easily as a 3/4oz. sweet rod.

I'm a lazy walleye tournament fisherman. I would have to say my favorite is an 8'6" Diawa Firewolf model "A" with a Diawa Accudepth 27lc reel full of 10lb Cajun Red Line sent out with an inline planer board for the pig of pigs(hopefully:dizzy: )

I also own a 10' Medium Heavy GTT steelie rod. And I agree that it is by FAR the best rod out there for under $30. Heck, probably the best rod out there for under $50-60. Decent warrantee too. MC Sports carries them.

Fly rod is a 8 wt G. Loomis Nauticaus paired with a Penn International. It's caught a lot of bonefish over the years.
Spinning would be the 7' Fenwick Techna AV/ Stradic with 20# power pro.
Baitcasting is 7' St Croix with an ABU Record and 30# power pro.

I like my Stradic reel/Fenwick HMXS 70 M-2 7' 6-15 lb test rod for what I am fishing most of right now. Of course for trolling, steelhead, slip bobbers and such I have other favorites.
But this combo is great, I have caught big lake run fish on it, eyes, bass and it works well as an all around rod if needed.
Problem is I broke the tip of the but section, seeking a replacement
