I fish the same area and have been getting them in 16-18 FOW. For
some reson they seem to be in shallower water this year? My best
plug this year is a black and silver ladder back on the first lead. I
havn't been getting many this year on raps, mostly pencil plugs.

I would at least have your leads at least 5' or so, it all depends on what you like. If I'm understanding you correctly your leads are 2' and that is toooo tight.. I've been fishing in 17'-22' of water and it's been a very good year, but last year was the same also..

I use 3oz sinker about 18" below triple swievel with a 3' lead to first plug then 10' off the 2nd and 10' off third. We stay about 20' of water but we are south of Marine City. I use spider wire but the boss uses mono. Best plug is black head wonder bread so far.

I run 18-24 inch to my sinker and then Two 5 or 6 foot leaders and a 10 footer on the end.

lower lead and top lead?? sounds like you got whipping mixed up with handlining,,,, off the 3-way you want a drop leader about 24" to sinker, then off the 3 way you want a 5 foot leader to the first plug, than on the back of the plug where the last hook is you attach another 5 foot leader that goes back to another plug where you again attach another 5 foot leader at the back hook that goes to you last plug. sometimes i may change the first leader to a 10 foot leader, and if you get more weeds that fish add length to the sinker leader.

Right on Timeye, I have taken the whipping set up to trolling the bay and it works great. Shallow Thunderstick Jr, remove back hook attach harness to O ring with a swivel and set it back 50 ft off inline board for suspended walleye. Match the stick bait to the harness color.

TimEye, I think some people do run multiple leads above each other while whipping but I think most (myself included) run multiples inline.

That's what I said but in more detail.

i agree, some people do run leads that way but his leads are 18 inch and 24 inch, being a noob, piggy back may be easier. by the way, i was out last night, launched at st clair at dusk(nice launch and cleaning station now) only got 1 whipping and that was right when i got there then nothing, gave up at midnight and went up and handlined and limited by 1:am.

Piggy backing them is the only way I know? I have a 24" sinker then a 5 ft to a 5 ft to whatever you like off the three way. I actually do it close to that just I mix it up a bit and it has worked well over the years, but I'll take that to my grave!!
