OK, I am sick of the floating weeds I have to deal with when trolling for Muskies. I have given up on trying to use planer boards because of the high amount of floating weeds.
So, I thought this year I may try using my downriggers. This way the floating weeds will hang up on the wire instead of the lure.
Has anyone tried using downriggers on LSC for muskies? Any success?

Do you use any weight on your leaders? That can help catch some floating weeds b4 they get back to your lure.

Yes, but that doesn't seem to help.

Try hanging a dulled treble hook where you attach your leader.

i catch tons of muskies off my downriggers....of course i'm trolling a harness for walleyes...ive got some nice musky spoons from spike i'm gonna try off the downies....anyway keeping the lines clean is the reason i run downies in 17 ft of water for walleyes...if i fish for musky this year i'm doing it.

I use downriggers whenever floating weeds become a problem. My 49 1/2 incher on the wall came while using downriggers. In fact, I had weeds on the wire the size of a football when it hit. So long as the weeds stay forward of the line release, your lures will run clean. Some areas of the lake are so clogged with floating weeds in the fall, it could be a waste of time to try and cope with them. :)
