I just wanted to alert the out of towners that the offshore races will be in Algonac this weekend. They do shut down the boat ramp in town of course, but the river itself will nuts. I guess that means the walleye will be extra hungry on the 4th.

How does this work? Do they close the river completely? if so from what point to what point? What times, etc?

They don't really close it, but the offshore racers go from near Harsen's to the State Park at full speed. There are Marine Officers and Coast Guard that will wave recreational boaters through when a racer clears. Early morning is ok to fish, but the city ramp will close probably Thurs or Friday.

so wheres everyone headed to fish if they arnt going there? i usually just fish there, what are some other hot spots?

That blows.. I had full intentions to fish around the State Park and launch in Algonac. Sounds like the river in that stretch will be a parking lot :rolleyes: :mad:

Last year they shut down both the DNR and city launches for the weekend.

I think they come into town tomorrow (Friday) but don't hit the water until Saturday morning. Not sure when they'll shut down the launches but it will probably be sometime on Saturday.

They'll start rattling my windows on Friday for warmups, but the time trials are Saturday, and then the actual race on Sunday. For more details see here: http://www.algonacchamber.com/Off%20shore.htm
