Yesterday I caught 2 crappies from under a tree that was laying out over a drop off. One was about 8 or 9" and the other maybe 5". I figured there'd be more but after I put the big one in my bucket, I couldn't get any more to bite.. Anyway, they were very dark in color almost completely black.. Do they usually hang tight to wood like that all year long?

I believe crappie like to move to deeper water in the summer. I have heard of guys catching them deep holes by docks where props dig a hole. However, I can say for sure that crappie swim in shoals and migrate around a lake or water system constantly throughout the year. Those fish may not be at that cover next week.

P.S. the dark signifies spawning time!

I caught this guy off the drop off, there were none in the canals. I think they are pretty much done spawning, but look how black he is...

During this time of year I like moving around the lake edges and casting toward shore any where from 3-7 ft of water. Between myself, wife, father in law and brother in law we caught another 70 tonight, 56 last friday, and 71 last thursday. Today was all catch and release, didn't feel like cleaning. But had a good time.

Caught a few last night. They were biting really light, not pulling at all. I wouldn't have even known I had one on had I not noticed my bobber edging away from the boat.

They are in my freezer now.

On my lake last week we were getting them in the brush piles every time we pitched in a jig. This week, we couldnt get anything going on jigs, but as soon as we tossed out minnows on a slip bobber we tore them up again. For some reason they just switched what they wanted to eat.

They were all still full of eggs as of Wednesday.
