Guys, I am looking to shorten the trailer on my 16' flat bottom jon boat so I bought a Fulton Folding Trailer Tongue from Cabelas. I am wondering how much I can chop off the end of my trailer without hurting my shallow water launching ability. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there anything else I should be thinking about like road handling, etc?

Also was wondering if those "Glyde-Sliks" or "EZ-Slide" products may help after I install the shorter tongue? Thanks.

Just curious - why do you want to do this? IMHO any benefits are overshadowed by penalties in launching flexibility and handling on the road. Why go to the effort?

Thinking of moving into a new place and I'd have a nice garage, but it is a little to short for my trailer as-is...

Why not put the new piece right alongside your trailer and mark it so you don't lose any length at all.
The difference you need for the garage should be made up when it's folded back.
If that won't work, take it back to Cabelas and find a place with a bigger garage.
