Headed there this weekend. Will post pics. We've never been there so I'm pretty excited to check out the area. We will have a couple of bowls of chowdah for sure. The drive through/around Manhattan will be interesting to say the least!

Had a great time. We stayed at Heckscher State Park. OK but no hookups - it was all we could get into, because everything else was full. Recommend Hither Hills or Indian Island parks for location and full hookups.
Visited Robert Moses State Park, on Fire Island. It is a barrier island with beautiful sandy beaches. Water was cold, but refreshing on a 90 degree day. Typical east coast beach - tons of people. It was OK though because the weather was nice and everyone was having a good time. I buried my kids completely in sand, which was fun and funny.
Next day we drove out to Montauk, and on the way drove through the Hamptons. Little bit of money out there. Saw 4 Aston Martins in one day. The lighthouse was cool, you can climb up to the top. It is an active lighthouse, the fourth oldest in the United States. It was authorized by President George Washington, and completed in 1796. Cool stuff.

Lots of boats off the point fishing for stripers. Talked to a guy who was surf casting for stripers, he said fall is the best time. The fish come right up into the rocks. Note to self - come back some time during the fall to fish! ;) Stopped on the way back to camp at a fish house for a cup of lobstah chowdah. Very nice.
Roger, you are right about the drivers - they're nuts. Pulling the camper through Manhattan and the Bronx was hairy. Lots of tolls on the various turnpikes, parkways and bridges. Overall a fun and memorable trip to start the 2007 season.

the tolls drive me nuts seems like every time I got up to speed had to slow down for a toll. Fishing in the fall for reds and blues is fun but like any other place you have to be there when the fish are
