What is the minimum distance you maintain between rod holders?

I am transferring much of my equipment from my 16' Wellcraft to my new (to me), 22' SeaRay SRV220. For each side I have a Walker Downrigger with a single rod holder, a TiteLok single and a 12" Bert track. I just purchased @ - 4 Rod trees (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:11&Item=300105670918) for the Bert's, as well as having Bert singles to use. Thus, on the 12" track I can hold the tree and the single rod holder or ~4 rods in a 12" space. Assuming I put the 12" track within 12" of the hardtop and the downriggers on the corners, should I just split the difference with the TieLoks? I have about 4.5' between the hardtop and the rear of the transom.

Thought or suggestions?

Alex

Alex,

You will want to mount the tree as far forward as you can without interfering with the hard top. I have and do use 3 rod holders on a 12" track, but it gets kind of tight, especially while running multiple divers. I have a couple 6" tracks and 70 degree Bert's holders used if you have any interest in them.

Biggest advice I can give is lay it all out and think long and hard before drilling holes. I am willing to come over and take a look if you'd like a second or third opinion.

You're "new" boat wouldn't be yellow would it? If so, did you buy it from a guy on M-82 near Croton?? We saw that exact boat for sale along the road this past weekend (a yellow one with a hard top).

I have run three holders/rods on a 12" tree for planer board lines. I don't think I would want them to get that up close and personal running divers.

This is going to be a little more challenging than I thought. . . the gunnel walls are not as thick as I thought and have a drop & slope to the water. I will have to get creative with some angeled spacers.

I am not planning on three rod holders on the 12" track. The rod holder tree I bought can hold 4 rods - 3 @ 45% over the water, offset slightly and 1 (or a net) on top. Then I have an option to use an additional Berts @ the other end of the track. Tim, PM me what you have and a price. . . always interested(~:

I am already pretty anal about this and have laid it out on a spread sheet so I can create different options. Tim, I would like to get all of this done. . . tomorrow. You are more than welcome to take a ride over tonight or in the morning. Or I can email you mu thoughts later today.

The boat is exactly as it appears in the brochure - White on Light Blue. I will post pictures as soon as I take the time to learn how.

Thanks for the input. . .

Alex
