I'll start by saying it was a great run while it lasted. We can all blame Fisheater with his strategy :dizzy: .......j/k..... How many of you feel that the travel in all the series played a factor for us at the end. After all the Wings travels more than anybody else in the playoffs. If this doesn't show the NHL that the Wings belong in the East I don't know what does. They played hard but, fell short. In general I feel we have a great future I hope hope Dom and Chelie come back!! Let's hear your thoughts.

They are not exactly flying coach in a cramped plane. And this isn't the first year these guys have done it.
Mr Ilich spends a lot of money on red bird 1. the have a lot to move around. Champions find ways to over come adversity. I don't think adversity means flying first class on a private jet.

I agree the travel has at least some affect on the guys, but I'm going with the injuries to Kronwall and Schnieder that did them in the most. And of course, running into a hot goalie. With that said tho, I also agree with GWP, that champions find a way... injuries, travel, bad calls, hot goalie, etc... Champions step it up, play 60 minutes a game like it's the last 5 minutes. Too little, too late, boys. Great season, good playoff run, well done, looking forward to next year... coulda woulda shoulda. I'm pissed.
sorry, please excuse my babbling rant. I'm at a loss for words.
One thing I did like seeing was my boy Datsuyk having a good post season and finally netting a couple on the road. Looking forward to next year.
Go Pistons!

The travel has to be part of it. The Red Wings made 2 trips to Calgary, 2 to San Jose, 2 to Anaheim. No team in the playoffs have that kind of travel schedule. Then when you factor in the age of players like Chelios, Hasek among others, then injuries to Kronwall, Schneider, Lebda, Holmstrom and Bertuzzi along the way..what they accomplished wa pretty amazing. Maybe they could've overcome the injuries better had they played in the east. Congrats on a great year Wings !!!

 ,,, I don't wanna blast Dom,, cause most of those games woulda been 12 - 2 without him,, with that said. Did ya happen to notice how many times you saw Giggy laying on the ice or even on his knee's scrambling for a puck???
Hardly ever.:16suspect
Two totally different "styles",, I know,, but the "Flopper's" best days are behind him. Hey,,,, isn't Giggy or Bryzgalov gonna be a free agent at the end of next year................. can you say,, "trade deadline"??:16suspect
Oh,, and about the travel,,,,,, Calgary, SJ and Anaheim also made 2 trips here,,, it all comes out in the wash.

Yeah, but your missing the point. The point isn't how comfortable their flight is, it's the jet lag. Your constantly crossing time zones every other day. When I was in the Marine Corps and constantly flying back and forth all over the Earth, our physicians (experts) and what not always taught us, that for every 1 hour of time zone you cross, it takes 1 full day for your mind and body to get back on track and coordinate your tired and energetic periods of the day.:dizzy:

Your also not looking at the big picture about the Wings being in the Western. The Wings made 2 trips each series. Your counter-point is null and void. Those teams you mention only had to do our travel routine in the series that they played against us. Sure, San Jose had to fly to Nashville in the 1st round. And Anaheim had to fly to Minnesota. The 2nd round and Anaheim just flew straight North to Vancouver.
I give anybody that ever makes a long playoff run on the Red Wings roster oodles of credit. They have a way tougher and more tiring itinerary than anybody else. You cross all those time zones, your mind is all out of whack, your wide awake at 1 am, dead dog tired at noon, you get mentally fired up for a huge game, go out and get pounded into the corner, get up and get knocked back on your can, and when the game is over, what's your reward? You get to cross 3 time zones back the other way accross the country, now the parts of the brain that produce the chemicals that tell your body when it's go time, and when it's sleepy time are even more confused, and you've got to constantly ask someone, hey! What time is it? I can't figure out if practice is in 2 hours or 12 hours. And God forbid if anywhere in that insane travel routine you stop to eat a plate of Turkey. Jesus lord, that tryptophan hits your pituitary gland and then your royally eff'ed up. Your not sure if your about to pass out, or if you should ride the bike for an hour after practice.:tdo12::lol:

I'm sure it hurts them, but what ya gonna do?
The Wings are stuck in the west and that aint gonna change.
Bad bounces, Not showing up in the 1st period, Injuries, hard physical series in the first 2 rounds, and forgetting how to clear your zone are the things I think hurt them.
They'll be back next year and hopefully the bounces go our way.

Yep, very true all the way. What's done is done. Honestly, I was 50/50 on wether or not our boys would survive Calgary. And I seriously thought San Jose was gonna beat us. I personnally never expected us to make it as far as we did. If you would have told me in March, "Hey fish eater, the Wings are gonna lose 3 of their top 6 Defenseman to injury, Bert is gonna play about 50% healthy, Hank is gonna come back for game 1 of the postseason with no rehab and a sore back, and their gonna go all the way to the Conference finals, and give the best team in the West an absolute dogfight in a 6 game series." I would have told you your smoking crack. It was a fun ride no doubt. See ya in September boys. Get some sleep.:)

Yup - good season indeed. Can't wait for the start of camp and seeing what Grigorenko brings to the states...interesting thought posted on the Detroit News site today saying Slava Kozloz is an UFA and may be a good fit for the Wings on a line with Datsuyk...toss in Grigorenko, could be an real fun line to watch! Not sure that Slava would handle Babs real well though...

Yep, Grigs is invited to camp and if you want to see the Wings succeed, we all need to pray for this kid to explode in T. City and make the roster. He has an out clause in his contract. He doesn't want to play in the AHL, so if he doesn't make the roster to come to the D, he'll go back to Russia. He's a good sized kid (208-213) and has loads of skill. Before that nasty nasty car crash in 03, this kid was one of the top prospects in the world. The whole world. I can't remember but I believe he was our 2nd round, in '01. There was 1 tourney where he represented Russia on a line with Datsyuk and Ilya Kovalchuk. He was absolutely filthy, and that line was just nasty.:tdo12: After the crash I had heard he was all the way down to around 175. Its taken him forever to put back on the weight and years of rehab, but from a few things I've heard outta the DRW this year, it sounds like he might be ready to be an NHL player. Foot speed is the main concern and worry that I've been told about him. We'll find out in September.
Agreed, about Kozlov. I haven't heard any UFA rumors at all (way to soon) yet, but I would be shocked to see them make an offer to Slava. Does he even play defense in Atlanta anymore?:dizzy:
