Got out from 7:30 to 11 am this morning. It was cool and cloudy. It took the fish until about 10 am to wake up. I was fishing a tight little stream in Mid Michigan, so I was using the trusty Ugly Stick Ultralight and a belt pack of lures. Long story short, four brown trout landed between 9"-16". All but the smallest were caught on homemade spinners.
More details than you may care about:
The 9" incher took a 1" white Powerbait tube on a 1/32 oz jig zigging through a rocky run. He thought he was a rainbow and really went airborne a few times! The 16" male had burnt butter sides and a slight kype. He ambushed a gold/yellow spinner from a log jam, then promptly tangled himself in the sticks. Eventually, I netted him and broke my line to get my spinner back. There was a nice Pike that found its way up into this water, but he would have nothing to do with my jig and bolted. Dang, guess I'll have to go back with some wire next time. The 13" grudgingly came out of a nice man made hole that always seems to produce. Several fish took swipes and either missed or came unbuttoned. The 15" finale fish fought like a bulldog and was released to fight another day since dinner was already taken care of. I suspect that more fishing would have resulted in more fish since most of that action took place in that last hour or so. Anyhow, I had a great time and thought this report might get a few people contemplating using up a bit of gas and some daylight to try fishing their own "home" waters. Good luck to everyone.
