Just saw quick replays....who was the other player that assisted in plastering him to the boards....one of the brothers??? why didn't he get suspended too....It looked to me like they both hit him at the same angle and equally as brutal?????

In my opinion, its a good suspension. I watched the replay, Pronger outstreched his body to the point that the tips of his skates(at most) were just touching the ice and put his left elbow into Homers head. His intent was to seriously injure, plain and simple.
I hate suspensions as much as anybody in the playoffs but I dont think the NHL had much choice. This is the monster they created with the "new NHL".

The other player was Rob Niedermayer, under normal circumstances his hit wasnt much more than a good check, he had a ton of speed which is bad and he definetly should have let off a little seeing Pronger coming, but he didnt stretch out or throw an elbow.
Pronger had more intent than Niedermayer.
I'll have to watch the replay again, I was pretty much focused on Pronger.

Seriously injure. I doubt that to, but injure him like he did was the intent as I saw it. I think its the right call for the image that the NHL is trying to portray.

These 2 Ducks have been playing the game for more than a couple weeks, and both of them know what they did was outside of the rules. Pronger's hit for sure. Doesn't matter his size. A hit to the head is a hit to the head. If the situation were reversed, Pronger would have been crying like a baby and in street clothes by the start of the 3rd. Can't stand the SOB.

anyone remember when he ran at Yzerman and blew his knee out trying? He is an ***** plain and simple and he did try to inflict injury.

Sissy is hitting someone from behind. Hockey is a great game in that it allows payback within the rules i.e. the open ice hit. These hits are absoluty unnecessary. Lets allow these indiscretions to be taken care of on the ice like it used to be, and this ***** would all but go away. Just my 2 cents.

You might be right Will and I may have overstated it but that if that hit(Prongers) takes out Homer for a 2-3 games in the WCF's, thats serious.
If this was the old NHL, i'd say dont worry about it, they'll handle it on the ice in game 4. Them days are over boys.

Ain't it a shame.
:yeahthat: In many respects, I think the NHL is getting soft at the top but this was a very unsportsmanlike hit and uncalled for.
It had the potential to do some serious and long term injury. I was thrilled to see Thomas back on the ice. Pronger deserved a suspension for it but I never thought it would happen. One of the rare good things with the new NHL.

I don't mind the new NHL. I think that the officiating is what's making it look soft. There are to many gray areas and they have not been calling the penalties the way that they are meant to be called. The reviews are hurting the game as well. Just like the other night when Dom had the puck stuck in his pads, they didn't even attempt to blow the whistle even once the puck was visually lost. Their whole intent was for it to go to review. THATS WRONG!! Make the call, good or bad, make the call

If the sticks and elbows are down and it doesn't interrupt the flow of the game, let them play. Officials are getting more TV time than the players. Good hard clean hockey is the way the game was meant to be played.
My 2 cents. See ya on the ice.

Homer scored two goals that night. Pronger was going in to put him out the rest of the game. Niedermayer saw Pronger coming up from the rear, he knew Pronger was gonna hit him hard. He came in to finish him off with Pronger. Niedermayer's hit was clean, but there was intent. These guys on the ice knew what they were doing, the 1 game suspension is just on Pronger....maybe Niedermayer will think and pass the next time he looks to double team a guy on the boards.

I'm confused - are you saying the Wings can't win with Pronger in the lineup?

That would have been a bench clearing brawl if that hit had been made in any era of hockey except this one. Didn't take much back when.

I don't think he is saying that. I mean obviously they did win with him on the ice. Twice.
He's just happy some justice was handed out. Well that's how I interpreted it. But then again I could be wrong.

The other player was Rob Niedermayer, under normal circumstances his hit wasnt much more than a good check, he had a ton of speed
The reason why he had a ton of speed was becauase he lined up Homer from 80 feet away. Most replays don't show it but he took the run of all runs at Homer and unloaded. Thats why he got the 5 and game right there. A clean hit is not taking a run at someone from the other side of the ice.

 I kept meaning to point that out in previous posts,, I just kept forgetting. Nieds had a red dot on Homers jersey from a long ways away. And if you really watch the hit(s),,,,,, Niedermayer really didn't even get a good hit on him,, Homer kinda tried to "dodge/stop" to avoid Nieds hit and when he stopped Pronger was right there. If Niedermayer doesn't come from 80ft. to try and smoke him,,,,, Prongers hit is nothing more than a "push" in the back,, "up the boards",, not face first into them.

The best part is that the Ducks are on their heels again, so it shouldn't take much to get them out of their game. If the Wings score first and can get a 2 goal lead, the Ducks will start to look a lot like the Calgary Flamers...
