Who would you send to the All Star game this year from the Tigers. My choices would be Verlander, Maggs and Granderson. Granderson is becoming quite the center fielder, leads the team in home runs and is second in the league in slugging percentage only to Maggs. They put up some stats last night during the game and he's in the top 3 in the league for quite a few categories. His strike outs are still up there but no one notices when you're knocking the cover off the ball during your other at bats.

Palanco and Mags are at the top of my list. There will probably be more but those 2 should definately be in.

My picks would be Granderson, Polanco and Maggs.
Granderson's always been my favorite, and he's really putting some good numbers up this year. Polanco is so consistant and I think he is often over-looked because he's not much of a power hitter. And Maggs of course is just hammering the ball.

Ordonez - absolutely! With this pace, should be among the league leaders in just about every offensive category. Polanco, again, yes - good 2nd baseman are pretty thin out there (at least in the AL).
The only problem I see with sending Guillen to the A-S game is that he would have to play the field (ouch!) - NL park again this year. I think you should look at the all-around game, not just the offensive nos. Of course, when Maggs is hitting like he is, you could probably make the exception.
Not sure about Granderson just yet - lots of good AL centerfielders out there.

Somebody has to be the closer on the allstar team, right? Hell, he could realistically have 25-30 at the break.
AL Save Leaders
1. Todd Jones, Det 13
2. Francisco Rodriguez, LAA 12
3. Bobby Jenks, CWS 12
4. Joe Borowski, Cle 12
5. Al Reyes, TB 11

Mags
Guillen
Polanco
Granderson won't likely make it as CF is such a highly contested spot. You know that Ichiro is going to be the starter without any doubt.
As for pitching, Verlander helped his own cause last night for sure. Jones is up there statistically so you never know. Verlander will need to own a couple more games.
And lets not forget who will be managing the American league all stars this year!!:D Leyland gets to pick the reserves to!!

Magglio and Polanco for sure.
Jonesy definitely would be deserving.
Verlander and Granderson as reserves.

He's not - but neither is Verlander, Dice-K, Gil Meche, or Roy Halladay. Fans don't get to vote on pitchers - they're chosen by the managers.
And yes, Jones is the AL leader in saves. And I'm a Jonesey fan (there's something about big fat ball players that I like), but I think its better to look at the save percentage and to a lesser extent record (closers with lots of wins tend to blow a lot of save opportunities, creating for themselves, win opportunities, which gets back to save percentage). From the above list, Al Reyes has only 2 fewer saves, and without looking at the current stats, I'd say he's having a better season (I don't believe he'd blown a save through his first 11 appearances - though that may have changed). Plus, you'd have to think that Jones (with a winning club, one that tends to play close games, at least towards the beginning of the season) would have more chances than that of say Al Reyes. Would Reyes be more deserving? One face you won't see closing out the AS game is Mo Rivera - he's having a terrible season (for once).

A lot of deserving players, except no way for Jones. It's like walking on eggshells when he comes in.

I vote for all of them. All the other cities stack the ballot box, we need to as well. You can vote at least 10 times on the internet (and actually I'm not sure how they limit you to this amount).

Is it 10? Used to be 25. Anyhow, they track by the e-mail address. If you have more than one, you can vote more. I vote by who is doing the best - that's the way it's supposed to be (and I lie to myself thinking that's the way it will end up - is J.J. Hardy going to be the starting NL shortstop? No. Too many idiots out there).

Granderson will not make the allstar team this year. He is not even on the ballot because of Sheff being listed as an OF. I reallize you can write-in names, but he will never get enough votes to make the team via write-ins. Maybe next year.
Polanco and Maggs should be locks.
Verlander is a maybe, and I don't disagree with Jones going. He ma give us all heartattacks in the 9th, but the bottom line is that he gets the job done!
