IMO, Neidermayer might get a game, but I can't see both guys each getting a game suspension. It was a hit up high, but this is playoff hockey. How many games did Claude Lemeuix get suspended for in 96?;) It wouldn't totally surprise me if nobody got anything at all. They call this the new NHL though, so I could be wrong, we'll see tomorrow.:chillin:

The fact we have no payback time people on the team, the opposition will continue to run anyone and everyone. This would not have happened if we had Probie or Joey type people on our side. When Pronger played for St. Louis, yes he was tough, but he also knew if he went to far some type of retalliation would be in store. Someone down the line has GOT TO protect the likes of Datz,Flip and Hudler. They won't be able to do their thing if they are on the DL.

Pay it back when your up 3 goals in the series clincher. Then I say send Big "B" diving into their bench to have them pay the tab. They are playing smart.

Help me out here, I'm just curious. The hit on Drapes by Claude Lemeiux was a nasty dirty hit right? And D-Mac was a payback guy, and he took a run at and whooped Lemeiux to stick up for Drapes, correct? Now, did D-Mac get his revenge on Claude later in that playoff series, or did he wait until the following regular season?;):D
Fellas, this is the Western Conference finals. Now is not the time to be 2nd guessing, or worrying about "oh we need some payback", "Someone needs to retaliate to protect Dats". There is no room for retaliation right now. After the intitial dirty hit, the officials are gonna be watching the "reputation" guys with a microscope. Worrying about revenge, or putting a huge hit on Pronger right now isn't gonna solve anything. Maintain discipline. Stay focused and maintain your bearing. Get his number? Sure absolutely. Next October, put #25 on his ***. But right now, play the puck, go hard to the net, and stick to winning hockey games. 10 down, 6 to go. Dats is gonna keep getting hit. Flip is gonna get hit. Homer, everybody is gonna get hit. We have no choice but to charge on with what we got. Anaheim hit Homer up high. Let the league handle it, and just worry about doing all the little things it takes to win. Is D-Mac enforcing properly in Calgary so that they maintain their composure? You think Bert wouldn't have loved to smoke Pronger last night? Sure, Bert is a competitor. His 1st instinct would've been to make Chris eat through a straw for awhile. But what good is that? Then Bert ends up suspended and we're stuck watching Calder fart all over the ice. This is one of the many reasons why we are the greatest sports franchise in the history of the world. We maintained our class and professionalism last night. Anaheim is frustrated. Good. Let them continue to lose composure. Let them hit us dirty and make us get stitches while they go and sit in the box. Their PK'ers are exhausted. Their rattled. We're under their skin, and their not handling it properly at all. Good. Play our game, stick your nose up at em and walk away, and hope they pick up an extra 2 minute for unsportsmanlike. Scoreboard chumps, scoreboard. Lighting up red lamps with composure wins championships, not payback and fist-to-cuffs.:tsk: :nono:

Go down the Red Wing roster and pick out ONE player, other than Bert, that would challenge and I mean CHALLENGE, not neccessarily win, a fight. The last guy we had is now playing for the Rangers. They need not be goons but management must do something to protect their investments in our youger smaller budding stars. Is it possible that Kromwall is injury pron ( I hope not) and the Wings future may not include him? Tough, tough decision that may have to be looked into.

Amen brotha!!!!!!!:) :D couldn't say it any better. Just play the bloody game and win...that's what it's about. The paper this morning show the score like this Detroit 5 - D*ck's 0. That was a big game to take from the road. Hmmm is the Lord Stanley I see at the end of the tunnel ;). Trust me we'll get them back nows not the time!!

edit: Speaking of Bert, I thought he had a real good game last night. He seemed to be all over the place and not quite so clumsy either. I mean everyone had a good game last night, but I thought Bertuzzi really stood out to me.

 True,,,,, for some reason I don't see Pronger balling up in the fetal position if someone drops their gloves and starts chasing him around the ice,,, I don't care if it's this year, next year or 5 years from now, he's not gonna back down.

Nevermind, 13 stitches and back in for the 3rd. When he went down he looked like he was completly out of it.

Lets just hope that Pronger gets the suspension he deserves, and the Wings can steal another one out west before coming home.

Who's going to get them back? Bert, who may not even be on the team next year, can't take them all on. If you saw the hit on Nash by Horry in a blowout game with little time remaining in basketball, think what a well placed knee in hockey could do. Season over? Career over? I stand by my comments,we MUST do something in the future to PROTECT our budding stars.,

I don't think anything will happen to Pronger or Neidemier. I am sure that any penalties would have been issued before now.

Niedermayer won't be suspended, he made a good hit. If anyone gets suspended it will be Pronger, but that's doubtful. If this were the regular season Pronger would be gone for 2-3 games, but he'll probably be playing in the next game.
Maybe the league will surprise us and really hand out some justice, this hit was worse than the Radulov hit on Bernier, and that wasn't announced till later the next day.

I know the Wings office is working on getting Pronger suspended for game 4 as we speak. I don't think we'll see it happen, but it would be the right call for the "New NHL".
Fisheater,
Right on with the now's not the time to retaliate. Especially being on the road and up a few goals. Don't give the fans something to get involved about. On top of that its not like anyone is going to go out there and speedbag Pronger. Pronger is a big boy and can hold his own. Best case scenario the fight ends up in a draw and we don't get the instigator. The reality is the Wings aren't the send a message with fists sort of club. A great game 3 for us and it sets up a great situation to put the Ducks on the ropes if we can grab the lead early in game 4. The wheels will start to fall for the Ducks.

The initial reaction from the league is to suspend Pronger for a game. They are meeting on it right now. I am sure Burke will argue to no end. Things could change , but what a statement that would make.

Here ya go...
Actually it's complete highlights but you do get a good shot of the hit. Just click on the link and the highlights will download an you can watch it. When the link opens just scroll down the page and there's a red section that says "TSN broadband". Click the highlights link in that box and you'll get to see the hit.

Am I the only one that didn't think it was a horrible hit? Yes, he hit him from behind and when he was vulnerable, but I think he was already in motion and just couldn't stop. The only problem I had with the hit was that it was from behind. You guys got to remember...Pronger is 6'6"....most of his hits are going to be high, especially when the person he is hitting is slouching down. It was big hit and someone will have to take him out during the regular season, but don't suspend him during the playoffs. I'd rather the Wings played the Ducks at full strength instead of missing their best player.

You don't have a problem with a huge and very strong dude running nearly full speed and OBVIOUSLY exerting the full force of his body through his arms INTENTIONALLY rammed into the back of Homer's HEAD and CRUSHING the Homer melon into the glass? Look at the video. It was a horrible hit and CLEARLY an attempt to cause severe physical damage to Homer. LOOK AT THE VIDEO.... you can clearly see pronger pretty much leave his feet and jump into the back of Homer's head.
A one game suspension should be enough for the Wing's purposes, but it should be 7 games.

It is a dirty hit simply because of what you said- it came from behind. The Niedermayer hit was fine, but you can see Pronger heading up ice behind Homer. I'm sure you know the rule that if you can see the numbers, you don't finish the check. Aside from that, the flying elbows come into play. This is not a borderline high hit simply because the player is bigger (like the Neil-Drury hit earlier this year) but Pronger got his arms up into his head, and pushed into the glass, there is never a time when that is acceptable.
One game suspension is very justified, if it were the regular season it likely would have been even longer. Now the Wings just need to capitalize.

I feel that the suspension is COMPLETELY justified and I'm glad that he got it. I'm so sick and tired of this "regular season officiating" and "playoff officiating". As far as I'm concerned, I don't care if it's in the second game of the season in October or with 2:30 to go in the third period of game seven of the SCF in June. If it's a penalty CALL IT! Rules are rules and they are to be followed. If you break the rule you pay the price. The point in the season or the affect on the outcome of a game should NOT come into play. If someone commits a penalty they should sit.

Your taught early on that you always keep your head up going into the boards, with that said
That hit was great,
sucks it happened to our guy,
but that was classic Gordie Howe,a move Howe was widely known for and we worship him,
no one in Detroit would ever talk down about No.9
too many young'ns nowadays don't remember old time hockey and the way the game should be played

Head up into the boards is correct, but there is that area close to the boards where you have no time to react. Boarding has been a penalty in hockey as long as I can remember, and the reasons haven't changed. Major penalty is assesed, when in the mind of the official, there was intent to injure. Players never used to wear helmets, much less visors. Helmets are worn because ice and boards are hard. Visors are worn because players seem to have trouble controlling their sticks these days. Respect used to be a part of the game. Play it hard by all means, but play it clean. You can do both.

I'm a lot older now, and I may not remember what I had for lunch, but I also cannot remember Gordie running a guy with his elbows up. His elbow work was mostly done in a crowd. Remember one announcer making a comment that a certain player came away from a mele with Howe with a very battered face. He hadn't really been on the ice with Gordie that much. The other announcer asked, "don't you remember a few games ago that player ran Gordie"? That was Gordies "reminder."

Having your head up has nothing to do with being run from behind. Homer has been known to take a hit or two, he knows how to play the game. Were all you guys commending Lemieux 10 years back when he ran Drapes head into the boards from behind? I'm all for physical hockey, but you can't tell me that in today's league that hit is acceptable.
