I damaged the tip of my skeg on a log this weekend. Has anyone used a stainless Skeggard? Are you happy with it? Any effect on performance? Does it stand up to other hits to the skeg without causing more damage? Thanks!

Cabelas spring cat. page 103.. Have used the macs guard on 40 tiller for
years with great success.. Just had a Lund follow me home & put one
on both 150 opti & 15 kicker.. Great investment

While they do have their place... I have one issue with them. If you are going fast enough... and the object you strike is hard enough... or really square... there is the potential to rip off the entire skeg instead of just bending it or cracking a chunk off. It's one reason skegs are aluminum... that and it's lighter that steel, cheaper, and doesn't rust.

I agree with you, same reason I dont use SS props, if you hit something the prop is what you want to break, not the the gears or entire outdrive.
You can have your skag repaired for cheap.
