Fished Monday Night, Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night . Went 1 for 3 on Monday night on good head-shakers and had a few brief encounters with tail-shakers. Tuesday night I didn't get anything but a coupla obvious foul hooked chins!
Tried my luck with the browns tuesday afternoon and didn't catch a dang thing, although I missed a super large brown that charged an elk hair caddis!
Thats the end of the report! ok time to get back up on my soap box:

First off if you plan on trying tippy for the first time here are a few basic "rules".
1:THE PERSON DOWNSTREAM ALWAYS CASTS FIRST!
2:THE PERSON DOWNSTREAM ALWAYS CAST FIRST!
3:THE PERSON DOWNSTREAM ALWAYS CAST FIRST!
4 :(While fishing the Wellston side above the culpher) the drift should go 1 o'clock to 10:30. person downstream casting first!!!
5: pack out your trash
6: if you aren't using bait you are illegal!
7: if you are unable to take your turn casting turn your back and face the shore so the guy upstream knows that you're outta the drift so you don't hold up the line!
8: if you hook a fish yell "fish on" quickly
9: if a guy is fighting a fish within 30 yards of you, get your line outta the water and head into the shore until the fish is landed.
10: wear waders!!!!!!!! sounds simple enough! but people go down ther without and proceed to tangle everyone up time after time!
11: THE PERSON DOWNSTREAM ALWAYS CASTS FIRST!
Ok that's the gist of the tippy dam rules!!Hope I didn't leave anything out!!
One more note! whoever stole my waders outta my truck needs a major **** whooping!(Ladykiller you better not be playing a joke on me! It wouldn't be very funny)

Sounds like a place I do not want to fish this time of year. I will head for more peaceful pastures in that area when I am up there over labor day.

Absolutely the best advice one could receive. If only everyone could follow those rules, it makes for a more enjoyable time, but alas, it doesn't happpen that way. Thanks for your e-mail earlier Weezer, that made me feel much better.

Well if you guys would just stay away from Tippy you wouldn't have these problems to complain about.

Well it must be just loaded with fish to keep all those people coming back and fighting each other.

I WOULD JUST AS SOON FIND A PLACE WITH JUST
A FEW FISH AS TO FIGHT WITH ALL THE YAHOOS.
BUT IF I WANTED A GOOD NIGHT OF ENTERTAINMENT
IT IS A GOOD PLACE FOR A SIX PACK. I ALSO CAN
NOT BELEIVE THE GARBAGE THAT IS LEFT DOWN THERE. NEED STIFFER FIND PLUS SOMEONE WHO NOWS HOW TO INFORCE THEM.
YE RIGHT THE D.N.R HA! HA!
P.S. GET HOOKED

Maybe with the new National forest parking fees they could hire someone to help clean it up. But really true sportsmen would not leave such a mess in the first place.

Green Caddis you are right but the places that I know other than the dam didn't have any fish and I don't have a boat to search out the pods!!!! I usually fish early in the spring and late in the summer at tippy for lake runners when the crowds aren't bad. this year the circus has come to town a little early!!
Oh yeah looks like my waders are gone for good, they also stole my net! I guess that's my fault!

every time you go down there pick up an arm full of trach when you leave and throw it away. there are many more of us that care about the river than not. you would be suprised how much stuff you can get out of a big gob of that line. i do this every time i fish down there and it pays off. someday maybe a guide or someone will see you do this and offer to take you out in a boat away from the crouds. another thing that helps with the crouds is to use your fly rod and act like you are just learnning to use it! people get the he11 out of your way for there own saftey!

Weezer, give me an E-Mail, i'll point you in the right direction for these early fish and far less people. There are quite a few actually on the Manistee you just have to look around a little bit.

I will be fishing a spot where I hope some of the migratory fish have taken a little detour of the Big M. If they are not there I will try for some resident browns. Will try to keep camera dry as well :)
