Read the beginning of my Trip here. (http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18519)

After seeing 5 deer on the way up, I had this feeling that this will be the place. The place where things would get better. I was up and on the river by 6 AM at high banks. I caught a couple of smolts and then I set the hook on something. Made a little run and the fly pulled:) Now that is a good start for the day. Then I got talking to a pretty nice guy. He told me some pretty cool info. Also, he told me this that I would like to note.

On thursday, a couple of people were down dear high banks where they heard a sqealing and a bang. Some local teens decided to go out and get drunk. Sure enough, they lost control and crashed into the trees. Some of the fisherman rushed up and pulled them out of the car. He told me that if it was not for these guys, those kids would be dead. Great job men:)

As far as the fishing, I decided to head down river after my dad came down. When I came back, he told me just lost one. Sure enough, he was telling the truth. He lost the fish on one jump. Later that day, a fisheran caught the same fish with the fly. I guess my dad has to go to Northern Outdoorsman knot class. Sorry don, I could not resist.

We then headed up to the meat hole where we pulled smolt after smolt out(released). What a ball. I also got a few suckers. My dad also saw a lock jawed fungi salmon swim up close but he had no interest. We then headed to boy scout camp. Now this was pretty interesting. A fish kept fanning her bed and she had a golden belly. Now I have never seen this and don't know what kind of fish it was. Could of it been a brown, atlantic, THE GOLDEN STEELHEAD:eek: ? splitshot, shoeman? i hooked her once but never got her in. I also foul hooked a fish but lost that also. I think my hooking abilities need to be stragthened. Anyways, no other fish were hook.

Fish Runs
Steelhead~Run is getting smaller and smaller. From my view, I think the fish will be there for another month but that will be it.

Walleye are in at the mouth. A guy came back with 4-5 sat night.

Suckers are winding down also.

The smolts are in there badely.

All in all, it was a great trip with a few fish hook and seeing my dad's eye after he hooked a steelhead was unbelieveable. I think we might go back next year when the fish are in thick and maybe he will get his first.

I think it is time to put the steelhead rod away and chase some trout more. I owe it all to the guys from this site, what a trip.

First off, I believe you just jinxed yourself. No Steelhead for you.

I wouldn't want you to subject yourself to anymore STUPID fish.
Perhaps the lowly carp would be a little more challenging for ya.

As for the Golden fish, more than likely still a steelhead. We've caught a few with the belly a little on the golden side and the top of the fish a cream color. I call them "tan fish"

Wait a sec, I am not the one that really said that. Someone at one of the outings told me that if you think steelhead are really smart, you will never catch them but if you think there stupid and outdo them, there nothing but a stupid fish.

Also, my dad thinks people that only go out every 3 days only catch steelhead and I have been trying to prove to him that this was wrong. Now he has been proven wrong because through his whole life, he has probably only fished steel for a week adding every day togather. Now put that to me that has been fishing them 5 years and got my first hoook up after 3 years, he can now see, there not that bright.

Don't get me wrong though, I still have alot of respect for them steelheadI I just was really happy to see my dad out smart a steelhead for once. Maybe I will get him out a few time next year.

Sorry, Dan. Too late. The jinx is on. It's going to take a lot to get rid of this one. You called them S-----.

Ever think about trying tennis or kickboxing?

Mike, I just checked a book on spells. One remedy describes the wearing of opposite sex clothing will reduce the effects of the spell.

Stelmon, you may have to attend an outing in Drag. :D

BTW, I don't think the "Old Man" landed that fish.

Steelhead still smarter than average bear.... Ugh

stelmon

No, he did not land that fish. Took a few runs and that was it. Maybe next year.

I have gone 5 years without a fish, I think I can go a few more.:p

I must KINDA apologize to Stelmon...Now that he said that about an older member...I kinda remember it...Us "Older" guys memories aren't as sharp as Stelmon's 16 year old Brain! (Thank God, lol! If I remembered EVERYTHING I do I'd SCARE myself! )

I just wanna know....WHO was this OLDER member who called Steelhead Stupid????? :p :D

stelmon

I think he was referring to the steelhead as stupid because they can be outsmarted and there not as "highly intelligent" as every newbie think's they are.
