after last nights debacle..had he been employed by me..he would be standing in the unemployment line or calling 'marvin' today. Talk about..not knowing, not caring about whats goin on in a game and quitting 2/3rds thru! one thing to be obtuse..another to be empathetic, but when you throw in the towel..you might as well coach pro wrestling or sit on your **** , cup in hand , sucking on ripple or thunderbird!

What?? How about Baek's pitching, he finally got it together and we could not hit his change up. We just one 8 straight games and we lose one and Leyland should be canned?? I'm just as pissed as you are, but I don't think Leyland was the problem.

Last time I checked Leland's name wasn't in the box score. The game got way out of hand so he pulled his veteran starters so they could play again today in a day game. That's just smart management.

smart management.?.that BOY couldn't manage his way out the door without help! Dombrowski sets him up with the 'world' and he gets the credit....due to his abhorrid thinking the game was quite out of hand by the bottom of the 6th..so you rest a few 15 million dollar prima donnas for 3 innings..yep thats sure gonna make a difference in the long haul..he's just another case of the 'good ol boy(baseball) network' taking care of its 'don't rock the boat' "say the right thing" chumps!..he'll take the tigers right where he took other teams after he reached the series.......dumper.....only with a payroll to match new yawk and the bosox!.......Why do you think he turned down the managerial job here earlier? he wasn't going to manage a minor league quality team....so tram suffered thru the bad and never got a chance to experience the good! while 'layla' sits in his pittsburgh ***** hole awaiting golden opprotunities to further grandize his pitiful self...the man has a thinking process that would make a 'sloth' look like earnhart or gordon! the only challenge jimmmmmmy ever took on....was....TO SEE HOW QUICK HE COULD CASH AN UNDESERVED PAYCHECK

I didnt get a chance to watch the game last nite :( but I think our Skippy has been doing a great Job after all we are beating the Yanks record

Go tigers!!

Even if they dont win another game this year. I will be there to watch them Leyland has done a great job with this team and with some of the great arms we have coming up from the minors we should have a great team to come

i think you're right!

leyland is a good manager...last i checked he wasn't the one out there swinging the bat...i was at the game last night and Baek(sp) threw a great game and the Tigers couldn't hit him...how is that leylands fault??

he'll take the tigers right where he took other teams after he reached the series.......dumper.....

Series? Other teams? Last I heard, Detroit was his second team to reach the WS (Florida was the other). Pittsburgh of the early 90's ran into a team I think you may have heard of - the Atlanta Braves (and later the Phillies) - and never reached the series. Colorado, well that was another story. And the '98 Marlins - no one could have gotten that team to win.

Before yesterday's game, the Tigers had the exact same record they had last year through the same number of games - things turned out alright (could have been better).

Yoda says: one game does not a season make.

By the way... what's a glutus maximus?

What a ridiculous post!!!

No amount of coaching was going to win that game for the Tigers. When a pitcher is on, he is on and there is not much a coach can do about that.

Tiger have 3rd best record in the AL - and are up 6-2 as I type - I guess Leyland felt like coaching today huh....

Do some homework....

And in leylands defense..the marlins cut the payroll in half or more the yr after they won the series..including most of the key veteran players.

When I read the title to this post I thought it was going to be focusing on the fact that Leyland is kind of a "Gluteous Maximus" when he meets with the media in his office after every game. Not so sure he deserves to be called out just because he pulled a couple starters in a blow out game!

Whooops, sorry. With all the venting and second guessing going on, I thought this was a Lions thread! My bad...I'll crawl back into that forum where I belong.

If one of the stars would of got hurt in that blowout you probably would of been upset with Leyland also. You got to keep the horses fresh. The season is a marathon not a sprint!

Yeah, that Leyland is a real bum with no track record and the players think he's an empty uniform too. :D
This may be the screwiest firestarting thread I've ever seen!

Leyland is a good coach...not a great coach. When I say great I'm referring to Cox of Atl or Sparky. Don't get me wrong he's one of the top ten in the league, but managers aren't worth that much. A great manager will get you another 5-7 wins per year tops while a bad manager will cost you 5-7 games tops.

The coaching aspect seems to have shifted from X's and O's/strategy to an ego manager. Kinda sad, but I see it going further in that direction. Managing the clubhouse has become more important than ever and I think thats where Leyland does a great job. There are some huge egos/former "problem" players on that team and you never ever hear of anything bad in that clubhouse.
