Carburetor Problems

I have a 73 Evinrude 40 hp and when I went to prime it, fuel started pouring out the throttle body around the butterfly valve. What is causing this? Stuck float or needle valves? I have never rebuilt the carburetor. It is an electric choke/electric start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a stuck float to me.

I would rebuild the carb, its easy, and gives you a chance to clean it out good.
